get that kick drum workin-any thoughts on the Blue Kickball?

aah the kick drum. so many ways to deal with it, huh?

i have my standards - couple of different speaka-mics (12" rola, 6.5" generic) i have a PZM inside the kick, i've got B52's, trashed LDR condensors, and each one has it's merit. (no, i don't have a d112 or d12)

i recently changed the resonant head to an aquarian double-ply and they are the bomb!! (i reckon from now on when i replace the remo pinstripes, it'll be with aquarians)

but what about the Blue kickball? they pop up on ebay regularly and i imagine they can't suck total arse.

thoughts? discussion?

(EDIT - i see it requires phantom power. well that's a poo. i haven't used phantom for 18 months now - it's a creative choice, not an equipment failure!)

Best kick drum mic by a country mile (in my opinion of course) is an electrovoice N/D868. Nothing I've experienced comes close. I've tried a million other mics too (D12's, U47's, RE20's, 421, M88's) and the 868 sh!ts on all of them.
