Peach EQ1P v's JLM EQP-1 - anyone A/B'd them??

I have the Avedis MA5 module. It's cool. I'm loathe to compare it but "Neve-ish" seems to be used a lot to describe it.

I also just ordered some TG500's from Joe. I was going to go for the Germanium 500 but some people I know say the TG slays the Germanium. Either way, it will be good on guitars.

I'm considering the Shadow Hills Gamma 500 pre simply because it's a pseudo 3 in 1 pre with the various switching options.

There's some good stuff out there. Have fun.

I was considering the shadow hills one also just on the look alone, hmmmm talk about impulse buying.

Will be interesting to compare Joes gear with a few others, hopefully his units will stand the test of time.

I hav'nt totally lost faith in the 500 format.

Out of all the 500 series modules look no further than JLM...period.

firstly, sorry if i sounded a bit 'hardware nazi' previously (my unintentionally snide comment about plug-ins)

The 500 series stuff will beat most plugins I reckon but I'm starting to lose a little faith in the 500 series gear, a lot of the eq's, comps and pres sound great the first time you hear them but after getting used to them and using them heaps they do have downsides such as sounding grainy and a bit harsh at times if pushed even just a little.

Some call it colour and warmth, mostly sounds like mess to me.

hmmm. so given i'm currently running a '78 TAC, some forms of 500 series modules may be a bit too similar in grain. if ya' know what i mean. yeah, the TAC is crunchy like a good muslie, with a couple of good sweet chewy bits to get ya teeth into.
without putting them side-by-side, can't say.
