Went to the world's first Apple Pro Lab for Logic Pro today

Well how about that....today I got to sit in on the world's very first Apple Pro Lab training session for Logic Pro at the new Sydney Apple Store. Apparently only New York and Sydney will be running the 4 week courses (which are free) and today's session was the first ever run anywhere they told us.

They set aside an area with 8 x mac books, M-Audio Axiom 25 midi controllers, Audio-Technica phones - 8 hours training all up (4 x 2-hour weekly session). Nice to get in early as all the gear was brand new today and still wrapped - hate to see it after 6 months of consumer mashing.

Interesting too that the trainer said they would also have been using Apogee Duets on all laptops as well if not for some software security stop they have on all the instore demo computers. Sessions are broken into an overview of the app (first week), midi recording (2nd week), audio recording (3rd week) and I think an open session for the last week. The guy said they are still writing the course material.

Anyway, just thought I'd give a heads-up that Apple is running this free training. I think it's now booked out for the first few months though, but maybe if you're thinking of exploring Logic first-hand (or want to quiz the guys on some of the more esoteric functions of Logic) - and you're in Sydney - it could be worth checking out. BTW, I don't work for Apple!

The trainer was a young guy with a chin stud called Alex (note: the guy was called Alex - not the chin stud!). Seemed to know his stuff really well, came from a Pro Tools & recording background and just recently certified as a trainer in Logic he said. The sessions seem very two way - plenty of opportunity to fire any questions at them. Also, as they are being conducted up one end of the top floor of the Apple Store Sydney (ie, not in a separate training room) you can just stand around and listen in even if you're not booked on the session.

Yeah, I agree - cant say they look comfortable at all..
