BeesNeez Studio Series "Jade".

BeesNeez Microphones is introducing a very affordable Hand built range of tube condenser microphones. The first installment is the Jade. The Jade spares nothing in quality, Hand drilled Capsule, American JAN Subminiature Tube, Paper in oil Capacitors and Cinemag Transformer and all point to point soldering in the microphone.

This mic is very linear, no accentuated top end and is very well balanced as well as being dead quiet.

Here are some Pictures and Sound files for you to enjoy. No EQ or compression was used on any track. A motu 8pre was used as the pre and i am the vocalist (oh boy).

as its Bens first post here at the forum , i will just clear up that ben makes and sells beez neez products here in australia and he asked yesterday if he could post his wares here on the forum.

there have been a few local product guys asking me about this kind of soft sell on our forum (jeez we must be getting popular)

i have decided that its probably a good thing to do and that as long as the sell is soft and the information is clear and helpful in a broad sense not just a sales pitch - then sure lets bring it on
there are a few more local product guys in the wings waiting to post

what are you making the plates out of ? brass , manganse bronze or did you go the whole hog and buy up some good old ww2- nazi gunmetal..?

Hi Rick, yes the Capsule in the Jade is one of mine. As far as the backplate material goes, it a secret!!! Just kidding. It is a high copper brass, about 2% more than usual, hence the non yellow color. The picture show's BeesNeez K47a (l) and Neumann KK47 (r)

ok so its a k47 inspired design ... now i understand..
i was wondering where you got the cache of german gunmetal from !

looks good but i reckon you can do a better looking mic body , and then make a bit more for yourself then wages ,
but i guess its tough out there to get people to part with the big bucks :(

Here is some more internal history about backplate materials

"In fact, the first M7 capsules were made from a special gunmetal compound which was originally developed 1879 by the goldsmith Karl Johann Bauer in Berlin for the German Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm II, who had the idea to use this for a new weapon against Austria. The material however turned out extremely difficult and expensive to make in quantity so it was never used for weapons and sometime during or after WW1 the secret composition of this metal which is known as called KaOr has been lost.

In 1949 Neumann found some of this KaOr material in a basement in Berlin Charlottenstrasse and because metals were extremely rare in Germany after WW2, they tried this to make backplates for capsules. To their surprise this gunmetal metal turned out absolutely perfect for capsules so it was used for the first M7 and K47 capsules. Unfortunately they ran out of the existing material quickly and had to move to standard gunmetal, and later even to ordinary brass (which is why Neumann microphones do not sound as good today as they did for the early capsules)
(forget all the internet rubbish with transformers, tubes, headgrille etc..)
Unfortunately I will run out of this metal very soon and will be forced to use the next best material after gunmetal - magenese bronze for my capsules then. Bummer."
