If you're hell-bent on leasing a console, any serious finance company would do it (or at least they would have 12 months ago...) After all, it's just a piece of capital equipment much like a tractor is to a farmer or a printing press is to a printer.

Leasing is great because rather than depreciate the item over it's expected lifetime, payments are 100% deductable from income. It also doesn't require capital outlay, so you just make monthly payments (kind of like renting a house instead of buying). The downside is you pay more than the equivalent amount in interest, and you never own it unless you pay a balloon at the end of the lease (the terms would vary).

I imagine the leasing company would want to see valuations (if the console is second hand) as well as pretty detailed financials on the business. Personally I'd rather own something like a console rather than lease it, but that's just me.

Funny story....very successful recording guys, had a great earning record, getting a lot of major work. Decide it's time to upgrade. Have work lined up for months. Bank knocks em back. Finance company says "why do you need to spend that much on speakers? Can't you go to harvey Norman and get some on one of those 2 year interest free deals?" They were knocked back a few times. Eventually had to 'restructure' the presentation to get the finance. These aren't nobodys, but the problem is getting a finance company that has any comprehension of what you are doing. Surprisingly, most people I know have had more succes with one of the big 4 banks than finance companies.

The other cosideration is that it is not new, so you can't swear to them that nothing will blow up in it, and if it does there is no warranty, which means either you pay to fix it or worse if you default they are left with something that they can't get their money back on. I would be looking more towards a commercial hire purchase for anything vintage. You can at least claim the interest.

For some reason most finance type dudes hear the words "Self Employed" as "Unemployed". Thankfully I have a kickass mortgage broker who moved heaven and earth to get my business the finance it needed and now it's all sitting at 5.2% Woo!

I could only wish I could get something as nice as the API. I saw that and almost drooled on the keyboard.

I am after a studio board. I have been using my Ta@#$% 3500 for years now and its time to get rid of it and get something nicer ( would not be hard). It does not need to be huge. Something like the DDA DMR 12 56 channel desk thats on Mixmasters site at the moment would work nicely. There is a few other console on there that would work nicely to. I mainly do drums and guitar type music and I have another guy that works out of my studio doing R&B/rap type stuff.

I am also looking to put in a Protools HD2 system with lynx converters.

The main reason for the upgrade is I am getting the interest from people and they are liking what they hear but I tell them I am using Reaper and they ask what the hell is that. They ask about the Ta@#$% and if its any good etc......

It is so much work to get the gig when you dont have any gear they have heard of. I am only going down the Protools path because the 2 other places I do abit of work at have tools. It is just easier.

I am also hoping this will get me better jobs as well.
