Possible Group Buy

It's only in it's concept stage but for anyone interested in another GB, there's a bit more info here......... http://www.pmiaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=694 ...........at PMI's forums. You may have to register there.

For the record, if it eventuates, I'll probably be handling the local side of things......orders, $$$ and shipping, which for local stuff will not be via the US, we envisage direct from the manufacturers to Aust.

This sounds pretty interesting. Has anyone had experience with these deals and what are the prices generally like?

We should do a group buy just for people called Chris.

Ausrock, thanks for your offer - it all seems a bit nebulous at the moment over there at PML, but if you post once a gear list and price is finalised, I'm sure you'll get takers.

Yeah,

I'm aways fascinated by the concept of these group buys but my patience for trawling thru limitless posts is small.

I do however have some nice unbadged mics, especially ribbons so I'd be interested.

Chris,

Just for the record.............Alan Hyatt and I have been talking about the idea for over 12 months and he recently "went public" about it on the last Group Buy thread at G/slutz then out of courtesy to Jules, started the thread at his own forum.

Rather than have an expansive offering as Chance did, what we envisage is a very limited product range, hence the need to get an initial idea of what people would want as AH can source from any number of manufacturers. There are at least 17 variations on mic "style" some of which could possibly house either a LD or ribbon, etc., so we have to be able to narrow this down.

Additionally, AH is sitting on a nice 1RU preamp which he had designed by their UK guy but decided not to put into his usual product range...........this may be available but whether it would be popular following close behind the recent GB pres is another matter. What other rack gear may be possible, I've yet to determine.

Thanks for that extra info. I hope I didn't sound like I was dissing Alan or yourself, Ausrock. To go right out of the box, what I would be most interested in is looking at a modular mixer, based around 1U strips. Input strips to have great preamp and EQ, routing to (say) four mono busses with eq and compression, and a nice stereo master. You could then add channels as and when you can, I have some ideas mocked up, but I'm not sure if the concept would have wider appeal, especially when everyone just wants 1073, 1176, Pultec etc.

Hey ChrisO, I'd be interested if you were going to organise shipping. The money I save having it shipped direct from China could be used for mods/repairs.

I'll try to register over at PMI later ( it doesn't want to let me play at the moment ). Any ideas on what some of you guys are interested in or leaning toward? I'm mostly after Pre's and Eq's.

The ACMP73 I got in the last GB will with any luck be going out for repairs shortly....DI doesn't work and the EQ section hums ( mostly when I don't want it to ).

I am happy with the mics i got from the TNC group buy, and a few of my mates want to get some too. Are the mics in this new G.B. the same ones, particularly the 1200, 310, and the 3 & 4 ribbons.

Agree, mics were great....pre's, not so. Not complaining at all, I knew what I was in for.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with my mics too - 1200 & 6802T - replaced the tubes in them with 1950's NOS Telefunkens and... WOW!!

Re PMI's forums...............I know people have been having difficulty registering there so I'll contact Alan Hyatt and see what's being done to rectify the issues.

Re what gear may be offered.............Alan sent me pics of most mics which could be available AND there's actually a number of factories in China making a similar range to each other but........1) I'd have to clear with him to post details publicly (sp) and ............2) We'd have to get the quantities up to make this viable.

Alan is heading to China this coming week and after that we may have a better idea of what's happening, so whether things will be limited to a few mics or whether there will be any rack gear, we'll just have to wait and see. As I said earlier, the general idea is to keep this proposed GB contained and not try and repeat the last "buy" where there were about 11 mics and 3 pres.

Obviously, I'll post here if there's anything worth mentioning and I'd ask that people keep trying to register at the PMI forums as I dare say that the issues there will be corrected ASAP.

Apparently the problems registering at PMI's forums are due to issues within the web server, etc.,................people are trying top get it sorted.

Edit:

There is now a specific thread at G/slutz where interested people might like to post.... http://www.gearslutz.com/board/low-end- ... ost4219943

I would be interested in a LDC Stereo mic. While cruising the net i found a list of mic factories in China and saw a pic of a valve LDC stereo mic and thought that would come in very handy for some regular jobs i have..... if it was of decent quality. Would be great if there was a stereo version of the ACM 1200.

People have had the chance to make their suggestions in the thread started by Angus at G/slutz (see link above), Alan Hyatt has been taking notice and is now in China where he will be looking to see what can be done but that doesn't mean that people should stop "voting" at G/slutz.
