I need a cable to fit this 60's Shure 545 Unidine III, help!

Hi everyone,

I recently bought this NOS Shure 545 circa '63, shown in the below photo. She's pretty! And completely original; even the original brochure, slip bag and warranty card was included! A nice buy at $179 US.

Only problem is it has a 1/4 jack instead of XLR plug and I'd rather not chop off this original one. So...If someone happens to have a cable that would fit it laying around in an old box I'd be much obliged. Call it $20 or there about.

I'm not 100% sure why you are getting sentimental about a jack end. As the allens ad about those snake lollies goes .. "Chop it!"

Are you going to use the mic, or put it on a shelf and admire it?

If you are so concerned about it's retail value, just unsolder the cable from the 4pin end and solder a new cable in with XRL at the other.. keeping the Jack end for the potential gold mine when you sell again.

If you dont want to remove the jack and resolder an XLR (I would do it), buy the cable you found.
Then you have the best of both worlds (XLR and 1/4" connector)

Desolder the jack and wire an xlr on. When it comes time to sell it to the Audities Foundation, desolder the xlr and solder the jack back on.

Sorry? No I'm not precious about the thing, I am going to use it of course. Why buy things like this for trophies.

I bought an adapter but it is balanced and hence I can't use it. The wizard at the music store claimed it would work, smart guy. Money lost. Can only blame myself for listening to these people and not looking into first.
