I am just not too sure how to gauge that last line in your post Rick...hhmmm
I guess it was more tongue in cheek or some could say foot in mouth or others might want to wipe the smug smile etc
But why do all those sayings have something to do with your face? - Maybe its the first thing - the image - that you see of that person or entity.

yeah understood angus, we all resort to some kind of voodoo to get the mics back in shape , you can use breville voodoo,
i am too scared for that,
i just leave mine on for two days and if that doesnt work i get them cleaned , if that doesnt work i bite the bullet and get them reskinned
actually nowadays i just jump the gun and get them reskinned the first time they give me the shits

but the brevillle method is probably much faster and cheaper in a bind ...

but i maintain newish mics shouldnt need voodoo -
i guess thats why i jumped on the thread in the first place
the pops are not normal behaviour in any weather

if as ben explains he is running on the edge (polarising voltage or whatever he does ) to make em sound special at a cost of some rare weather concerns in a really rare deluge ( flood actually ) and in an out of studio enviroment
and he backs the issue with his warranty
then i guess his mics are the exception to the rule ... and so we all evolve to a better sounding world one mic maker at a time

I like the upside down thing for big condensor mics for a number of reasons:

- if you leave them out, settling dust won't settle on the important end of the microphone.
- it leaves plenty of room for a music stand/pop shield
- there's less chance of the vocalist hitting the mic stand with his/her arms (if they're really getting into it)

the thing is you need a good, tall stand to do this. i use mic king stands, they're great.

i did hear about the whole convection thing (the heat from the tube rising etc) but I don't really buy that.

note that i recently had my U87 cleaned by Rob, it was dirty and would intermittently cut out.

I'm with Rick, I hate fishing in the rain. Though the snapper could really come on after it.
