Short IEC cables

Postby Alistair » Sat Nov 27, 2010 2:07 pm

After a bunch of short (30-60cm) IEC cables for a rack I'm putting together. Does anyone have any good links? The cheapest I've found them in Aus is about $10 each, but on some US sites they are at 79cents each! Obviously different plugs otherwise I'd have bought a stack of them. Just thought I'd do a quick check before I blew a few hundred on cables....

You can get IEC cables with no plug top from most electronics suppliers, cut them to your specific lengths then fit them with a plug top.

Beware of cheapo IEC cables....most of them are hanging on by 2 or 3 hair sized copper strands...

Thanks Nick. I was trying to avoid soldering as I've already done a few hundred connections in the past 48 hours, but I guess if you want it done right you've gotta do it yourself!

The plug tops have little screws that secure the cable... No soldering :)

Hi David,

Thanks for that. Looking for even shorter though- the back of the rack is more than messy enough. Thanks though!
