I have just read the most accurate description of ribbon microphones ever ! The article is about a Royer ribbon but the description applies to many good ribbons! Read the HOW DOES IT SOUND paragraph!
It is what went through my head in some sort of abstract inarticulate way the first time I heard a ribbon mic ! I thought Hmmmmmmmmmm............reminds me of tape. I thought I as alone.... anyone else get that feeling from ribbon mics?

After I figured out that the hyperlink was missing the html extension, I found the article, and agree it is worth reading. The SF12 is a very worthy mic!
BTW, the correct URL is: http://www.royerlabs.com/articles/AT1303.html

Here's to that. I've had a pre-Royer SF12 (built by Bob Speiden) for years. It's been re-ribboned by Royer so I suppose it's a Royer now.
I don't use it often, but when I do, I instantly remember what I loved about it and have never regretted it.

Right at the bottom of the article are some comments about a faulty mic and lead tested in Oz. Unfortunately, that speaks to me of poor quality control, not the first case of this I've found with Royer mics since they took over from Speiden.
