Re: Chandler TG2 vs JLM TG500
What is it your wanting to know specifically?
I own a couple of JLM's and I've used TG's before although it's been awhile..
Both very good on dirt guitars, or any guitar really.
From memory the TG was a fair bit dirtier, or at least broke up easier anyway.
The JLM is a "take" on a TG, it's no carbon copy that's for sure, to be honest you'd be pretty happy with either, it's like anything though you should try and hear it for yourself
Cheers

Thanks matt!
Yeah I'm real keen to hear them but don't know anyone who has both in Perth. That's why I thought a shootout recording could be cool.
Thanks again

Re: Chandler TG2 vs JLM TG500
I've used the TG2 on a lot of things and really rate it. Sensational bass DI, too. I can't speak for the JLM as I've never used it, so I haven't a clue if it has the same kind of richness and character. I used to lend it to a friend's studio for drum overheads because they couldn't get the sound they wanted from anything else - and they had the Chandler Germanium which you'd think would be similar, but they put it up against their Neves (1073), Urie, SSLs, etc. They did a lot of heavy music and indie mainly. Myself, I used it lots for strings which really sounded nice through it. Guitar, percussion, bass and even voice, it all sounded pretty good really. Pret-tay, pret-tay, good.

yeah.. i've used the TG2. Its very cool and I like it.
thats why I'd love to hear it up against a JLM to see how they sound different.
Joe Malone is an amazing tech and I would imagine his stuff would be even nicer.. I just wana see for my self
haha
maybe I'm going to have to buy both.. they're just all so expensive though.

Re: Chandler TG2 vs JLM TG500
I have never used the Chandler, but I have 2 TG's built by Joe. Not the 500 series but the original units they were derived from.
They are my go to pre's for big guitar sounds and are great on toms as well. Joe wasn't that happy with the build quality of the early Chandler's,
I think, and decided to do something that would stay in one piece and rock...they do, in spades! Buy some with confidence.

I'm really keen to hear the differences between them. The TG2 is next on my list of gear to buy as I really need some nice preamps at home (and hey, spend enough money you'll use it for 30+ years right?). Keeping the money in the country would be good as especially to Joe as he's been great to us at JMC over the past few years.

I owned a JLM TG500 and NV500 but sold them when I got sick.
They were both outstanding units. The TG just made a guitar sound like a guitar. Amp--->57--->sweet.
I'd recommend them.
