ive looked at this before (mostly for studio) but im having issues with live consoles driving my beyer dt770 250ohn cans..

im after a small, salilly chuckable in to my gig bag powerful mains drivren (not batteries) headphone amp.

not behrincrud, not presonus, not fostex etc..

but im not sure and for $450 plus delivery i want to be sure.. and it runs off batteries, the size and functionality is perfect though.

any suggestions.

i could have been dreaming but i'm sure i saw a headphone box recently that was geared towards live guys... it even had an adjustable delay so you could align it with the PA. I can't remember any details or where i saw it, i've been waiting for one of you guys to mention it!

its an LA audio thing... and doesnt drive DT770 well... already tried it.

what is it with these headphones...

1 why do i like them and insist on using them..(replacing them would be easier)

2 why cant consoles run the very headphones i see LOTS of live guys using..

3 why am i the only one bitching and wanting a better amp, im not deaf and cant be the only one having this issue..

Perhaps 80 Ohm version is more common for live use? I just bought a 250 Ohm pair, and to an extent have run into the same problem. How is it that a laptop can have more output then a console?!

as a broad rule of thumb the higher the impedance of the headphones, then the greater the VOLTAGE drive from the HP amp will need to be to generate a given acoustic level. Every amplifier has a limited voltage range dictated by the supply rails available. Also significant factors comparing listening to music off an iThing compared to monitoring off a live console are : background noise, the music off the iThing is mastered and has low dynamic range and off a live console you are often listening to solo-ed signals where the average energy is low thus needing a lot more volume and thus voltage in the cans.
