- K-58 - Multi-pattern tube condensor (Matched pair)
K-38 - Multi-pattern AFET condensor
K-6 - Ribbon
Kmicro - minature condensor (Pair with the K-38)
First question is whether these six mics are worth the ~ $2k total I paid (landed). Some for sure, some I haven't decided yet.
All the mics (except the Kmicro) arrived in a plastic roadcase with foam insert and lock, they also come with a solid shockmount.
I've just finished doing a quick test of all the mics on my new Hamptone HPJF2 (Which will get a post in the DIY section once I finally finish it).
First the K-58 tube. Entirely usable, clean, quiet, only interesting point is that if you sing to the sweet spot of the cardiod pattern and then swing the pattern switch the level doesn't change, which is a little odd (but nice).
Now the K-38 AFET. MAGIC. Through the hamptone on the figure-8 pattern, just magic.
Lastly the K-6 Ribbon, not sure about this one, I wasn't happy with how the hamptone drove it and I think I'm going to have to chase Joe about a 99v for it. I haven't made up my mind about it yet.
Then there's the Kmicro, this is the real 99c mic (seriously they sold the first batch for US99c each), but for minor things again, entirely usable.
If anyone in Melbourne wants to give these a try in their studio drop me a line.
But, being Chinese made there are of course a few niggles, this isn't the full list, but notable:
- The case of my K-6 had a bad joint where the Grill meets the body which wobbles when touched. This isn't a major issue in use, just irritating with a new mic
The foam in the cases is not quite cut right (especially in the K-58 which requires significant force to close), which combined with the fact it's a little soft for my liking means I'll probably get it recut
XLR jacks on the Kmicro (especially, impossible to fit connector) and K-6 are a little tight
