Moving to Tasmania

Tanks for the info guys. It'll come in very handy.
It's been years since I've been to Tassie (25 years?). I remember being in the back seat of our car driving past a town called "Merino"?? They had a sign saying - "Population 2". There were 2 houses (either side of the road) and too my surprise an 18 hole golf course with another sign saying "membership 2". We laughed all the way to Hobart.
We did the Franklin River, Craddle Mountain, Port Arthur and pretty much saw every corner of the state. A great holiday from memory and I'm looking forward to returning.

on that note, when i went down to tassie for the first time. i was shown around by Chris T (from turtlerock)....he said the tasmanian's have a peculiar sense of humour...what did i see while there:

- bus shelters, with dining clothes, plates, candles, and cutlery, set up for no one.
- funny signs.
- a mechanic in a petrol station with no sign, except a massive PROCRASTITORIUM...

+1 Taswegian here, northern lad however so don't get me started on why you should take the Boags tour and not the Cascade one!

If you can, take the Tasman Highway past Sorell, thru Orford and all the way to Swansea & Freycinet. Best oyster farm ever about 30mins out of Coles bay, plus the walk to Wineglass bay is a must too.

Places to eat.. Hmm, check out Marti Zuccos on Elizabeth St in North Hobart, pretty sure Red Planet studios is around there too. Never been in but heard good things about the place & guys within.
Sticky Fingers icecream down on the wharf is great if you've got a sweet tooth like myself!

Good luck with the move, Tassie is a great place to live if you've got consistent work to support your family & lifestyle - was in the same boat as Myles so now i'm 'just another tasmanian moved melbourne-ite'....

And hey at least Tassie has beautiful sunny winter mornings to melt all the dew/frost whereas Melbourne & Sydney are grey & overcast for about those 3 months!

Hi all,

I've landed a job in Hobart and will be moving down sometime in April. I know there's a few Tassie folk lurking round these parts, would love any advice that you think might help with the move south.
