I've got two of the red Omni guys. Kinda fun for a smashy drum sound and drummers think they look cool.

should be mentioned that these 12 gauge mics are unbalanced, if that's any concern to you guys.

Doesn't bother me, I'm getting some greens!

I like the fact that none of us would ever bother to wire a $2 electret to a xlr and use it on a record but if somebody else does it and shoves it up a shotgun shell or in a block of wood we run at it

file it under the perverse audio engineering condition of
"i really dont care how it works .. i just want one "

put me down for 2 red and 2 green manning

Alright, that's 2 red and 4 green so far.

Anyone else in Sydney want some? I'll place the order on the weekend.

Yeah Rick, it's interesting how packaging and marketing affects the buying public.

I recently noticed that AKG are producing a lot of mics with electret capsules, even the new 451 is an electret... but not the $2 variety.

Hey Manning, wouldn't it be more fun to make one.... $5 worth of components and a hot soldering iron!

So what did became of that "build your own condenser mic" thread in the DIY section that everybody got so excited about?

stupid mic thread has reminded me about my souped up hydraphone that featured in the underwater drumming in the Derwent.

and ....in the fact it hasn't come home yet! Hey Chris, where the f@#$ is my hydraphone?

maybe I should rummage through my failed projects box for the piano mics I made 20 years ago...

I know Rob...
I'm going to send it with other stuff to repair....

The best stupid mic Ive heard lately was Chris V's talkback mic from the AWA console on drums - SO good.

Years ago I did an album band from Adelaide -
These guys were pretty poor, so they made all of their own mic's for a drumkit out of standard copper 1/2 inch pipe.
And did their demo's on a 8 track
The drums sounded so bizarrely good, that I nearly used them again on the album. (came to my senses)

I'm still thinking Rob - that enormous Hydrophone may be great as a drum room mic -, just hanging , or even in a barrel of water. Its got surprisingly great detail.

Chris

don't send back the hydraphone yet. In fact don't send anything for a while

A general heads up to all .... I'm out of the country from next week until late June so best not to send big heavy boxes for the house sitter to have to lug around.

I'll send post cards ... maybe

I'd enjoy hearing Fritz.

I remember putting up a mint matched pair of M50's in a great room in Germany last time I was there.Room mics for kit.I was floored, just floored.I was offered them.Since I don't have a spectacular room, I passed.

Anyone else for the group buy of the shotgun shell mics?

I've been emailing the guy responsible, he's quite chuffed we've taken an interest and he's going to give us a moderate discount.

So far we have 4 green and 2 red. I'll be ordering on Sunday.

No problems - if there is sufficient Melbourne interest we should get a second shipment sent to you direct from the US. Otherwise I'll send yours down to you from Sydney.

OK, shotgun shell mics are shipped and on their way. Probably arrive early-mid next week.

Costs - after the group discount but adding in currency and bank fees, it more or less works out at $45 for a green and $35 for a red.

RIck - your bill is $160. Credit it against the mastering job I'll be sending your way very soon.

Chris Hallam - your bill is $90 plus shipping to Melb, prob an extra $10 or so. PM me your address.

Richard - your bill is $70, let me know if you want to collect or if you want me to post them to you.

Shotgun shell mics have arrived.

We'll be playing with ours tonight. They are phantom-powered condensers, in case you didn't know.

People who owe me money will be getting PMs with my bank account details, (assuming I can find them). I'll get them mailed out on Monday.

Rick, you can collect at your leisure, or I can drop them over to you sometime. Just give me a call whenever.
