That sounds like some serious internal problems and you probably have some seriously mismatched drivers/hardware/faulty ram/faulty hard drive or something like that for that level of instability.
I've been through all of that a dozen times - have replaced every memory chip, each hard drive, reinstalled every bit of software and/or driver and the OS on several occasions.
Now I'm just biding my time until I can get off Mac and go back to Windows. It won't be any more reliable, but at least I won't be paying 5 times as much, nor will I have to listen to Mac fanatics telling me how stable Macs really are. I run Cubase on Win7 at home and it never goes down. The Mac crashes at the blink of an eye. So does my Macbook, come to think of it.
