Stockhausen's Sirius and BIFEM

So in case anyone is interested I will be performing the Australian premiere of Stockhausen's seminal work Sirius as part of the Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music. It's a very rare chance to see an exceptional and influential work by one of the great composers of the 20th century with an exceptional cast (Nicholas Isherwood, Tiffany duMouchelle, Tristram Williams, and Richard Haynes) in the beautiful 19th century octagonal library of the Bendigo TAFE. Hi Myles, that looks amazing - what exactly is "8 channel diffusion"? From the pic it looks like you're in the centre of the room. Are the four other performers at NSEW corners of the room and you get to play with them in a surround sense?

Stockhausen is incredibly specific... So the Bass is North, Soprano South, Trumpet East and the Bass Clarinet is West. Each represents a zodiac symbol, a season, and they are space beings descending from the star Sirius to bring wisdom to us Earthlings. This was 1975....
The system is an equidistant octaphonc system with an 8 channel tape part that I project into the space and control, I also amplify and gently effect the musicians. The tape score was created on 8 track tape with an EMS Synthi 100 and incorporates both synthetic sounds and samples and took more than 2 years to create with the technology of the day. The score is incredibly detailed and full of "Sound Projectionist" cues so I read the score and perform as a musician and as a technician. Stockhausen was the only one to ever perform the electronics as far as I am aware. For me the entire thing runs off a max patch which I programmed and I'm using the UAD Apollo to provide near zero latency on the musicians yet still using the Neve 88rs channel strip and lexicon verb on each. The musicians have both IEMs and a small genelec each as a monitoring system. I wont be performing from the center but throughout rehearsals I have been so that I can accurately monitor the system.

That would be a great project to be involved in. Good on you Myles,and keep us in the loop with how it goes.
On Sat I'm helping out with a recording of a concert for 60 minutes about a teacher I know who works with autistic children and has developed a method of teaching music that has very real therapeutic benefits for the kids. ( I will start a thread about it so this one stays on your Stockhausen gig )
