Microphone foam inside grill

Hey crew,
The foam inside the grill of one of my microphones is starting to deteriorate.
Does anyone know where to buy that sort of foam. Anyone have some leftovers?
I only need a piece as big as a hand.

Go to your local auto parts
K&M filters use it

The correct acoustic stuff is open called acoustic foam
( the Aussie stuff is meo 245)

But any open cell foam will do

It can't be closed cell foam .. Most foam is closed cell CLOSED CELL FOAM WONT WORK !

If in doubt.. stick it up to your mouth and try and blow through it
If it open cell the air will escape through the foam and it will get hot

If it's closed cell you will feel like the foam is choking you

K&m filters won't be free .

I should probably also look at fabric places that sell thin black foam wadding. Could work..

hey ben if you find the right stuff somewhere
id be interested in a bit too...
ie: if you need to buy a meter sheet or something - we could divvy up the cost
ive definitely got a few that could be spruced up..

You see I thought i was the only person who does a double take every time i write meo 245 foam
might end up being meo 262 !!!
the advantage of buying the auto filter grade foam is its tested for life expectancy which is about 15 years for meo before it self destucts and thats that ( 15 years is amazing for exposed to air and heat open cell foam )

it comes in different thicknesses in 1200 x 900 sheets from .5 cm to 20 cms lot of colours but it costs a frigging fortune one sheet at a time so its its cheaper to buy k&m filters for what we are talking about .

or if your sneaky like me in the never ending hunt for all things audio .. track down the manufacture of the filters in lets say upper north shore sydney.. turn up with a mic in hand and ask if you could go through their skip bin

not saying out loud that I raid skip bins after dark for acoustic foam for old microphones or anything dodgy like that .

The stuff that's sold as speaker grille foam on ebay would do the job too, I would guess it's pretty robust as well.
Lots of electronic goods come covered with a sheet of open cell foam in their boxes too, you probably have some laying around already!
