Sony DRE 2000 reverb
I have a Sony DRE 2000 that is not working any more, I have board layouts for it but no schematics as Sony never released them. They are a great unit, before I break it up for parts and sell the bits on Ebay I thought that I should check and see if there are any Aussies with one, as some board swapping may reveal at least which of the 4 PCB's the fault is on, or the remote.

They are a nice unit. Unfortunately I don't have one. Any option to make a signal chaser? I made on out of a little powered pc speaker, put an alligator clip on one wire that you clip to ground and the other wire goes to a mulimeter probe with a cap to block dc. I use it to chase faults in my console modules. Be a shame to gut it if it's only something small. Mind you, sounds like you know more about that sort of thing than I do.

they are a fantastic sounding unit, Sony recalled them all so there aren't many around. The boards are stacked in a card cage, so without extender cards they are impossible to probe apart from the top board, and they are a very dense and complex unit, repair without being able to at least getting it down to board level is not even remotely possible, and even then it would be a huge undertaking.

I emailed a mate in the States overnight. He does a lot of the older high end stuff, the main man for AMS stuff. He was going to build some extenders and offer service on the DRE's but in the end he decided it was all too hard. Apparently some parts, in particular the memory board are impossible to get. He reckons the 2 things that go first on them in the memory board and the converter board. Hope you have some luck finding another. I hadn't heard about Sony recalling them. Be an intersting story to find out why.
All the best with it.
Cheers.

Hi Guys,
I am looking at getting one of these of one of my old freinds. It seems to work fine but it makes a high pitch tone type sound after it warms up. Its not in the audio signal, its coming from the frame. Mabe a fan or something. But I have had a play with it and would have to agree that it sounds good. Can't wait to get my hands on it.
Abit worried if it dies. That would suck.
Cheers

There is a fan calibration procedure for it, you need a scope though to see that waveforms.
