Gee I was waiting for a fix-up with Logic 8, looks like that isn't going to happen.

Deleted as my question was answered
Logic Express upgrade takes 4-5 weeks shipping time if purchased through the apple site.

Well, I took the plunge. Got a discount at the Apple Store this morning $245 (might have helped that I bought a refurbed octo while I was there though - ouch, but ooooh, but ouch, but ooooh!) BTW, the shipping receipt I got from Apple says the Logic Update will ship within 24 hours. I'll let you know when it actually arrives.

Hey Chris - an 'octo' is an 8-core Mac Pro.

the US upgrade price is $199 which should make it closer to $250AU, but its actually $299AU. as usual. I understand all the reasons why, still don't like it.

GST, customs, import duty etc. Not that much of a difference really.

If you grey imported it there wouldn't be any customs/import duty.
From my experience duties seem to kick in on items over $1,000 AUD.

Correct, but wholesalers/importers, ie Apple, will be paying those things on this software. I think $250 for LP9 upgrade is a steal. Try that with Digidesign.

The boxes, cd and manuals are most likely printed/burnt/put together in china, there would customs and duty into the US as well, and china is closer to AU, however they sell 100's times more boxes in the us and eu.

Regardless $299 for an upgrade is a gift. I did an upgrade in PTHD 8 and it cost me a $1k to get everything working right.

Digidesign should not be held up as an example!
I was spending about £10,000 every three years in London trying to keep my PT current.

I must say I priced up a new Mac in Oz, the USA and UK about three years ago and found the prices almost the same.
I admit I was surprised, but Apple have always said they would price products the same around the world whenever they could.
Some of the latest Macs are significantly more expensive from the Mac shop here now though (perhaps down to local taxes, or the slightly stronger US Dollar vs weaker Aus Dollar).

For those wondering ....

http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/whats-new/

We should organise a group buy of the upgrade - I'm in for one. Any other takers? What Turtlerock price can you get for us, Mr Smash our very bestest of friends and he of the magic semi-moderator ranking

Less than $300 to get audio quantisation, multi-track splice-less retiming and drum replacement (yeah, no more Protools envy - it was the single feature that Logic most lacked IMHO). Assuming it stays stable, Logic under Apple has not suffered at all. I wonder if E-magic could have done the same.

Does it work?
There seems to be a lot of people grumbling about various problems.

Not to put down Logic. I'll be going down that road once I decide on a suitable audio interface.
Right now I'm getting by ok with an Mbox and PTLE.

It's got to be better than 8. I think Apple is making us pay for the fixes.
Find out soon.

Nick, my v.8 has been stable as a rock and done everything I've asked of it, once I got across the new interface. What probs have you had?

I think you are right, most of my problem is losing communication with my Ensemble.

I'm finding 8 works flawlessly now. before the previous OS update I had system overload errors, even though the mac wasn't working hard at all. I think it had something to do with the airport scanning.

It's always the way really, I FINALLY have everything working perfectly, and I'm about to go and fcuk it all up by getting 9.

Looks like they've really sorted the comping now too, it was so annoying in 8 that you couldn't move things within a comp, nor do fades or edits within a comp.

No problems with Ensemble here:
2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; Mac OS 10.5.7 Logic Pro 8.0.2

(........Although the Ensemble seems to be emitting a high frequency signal above hearing range that shows up on only a good spectrum analyzer or scope)?????

There is a thread over as Gearslutz in the music computers section listing over 50 changes to Logic. The apple site only shows the big ones - but it's the little things they haven't mentioned that are what sold me.

Logic 9 installed and working without any problems, seems more stable than my Logic 8 install. I must have had a problem with the original Logic 8 installation.

Hey Nick,

Have you played around with the input/output device settings... If you have more than one interface, AND if you get a chance, can you check if you can assign one interface to input, and the other to output... ?? My upgrade has shipped, but hasn't arrived.
