Hi Dwane
Guitars love a bit of 7khz. Try and stay away from compression while tracking - catch it on the other side.
Bass for me really relies on the instrument and the player. The natural compression that some bass players use with their fingers makes life very easy for recording. For a good bass sound you need to start with a nice sounding instrument. The cheap junky bass will probably won't get the sound you have in your head.
You invested in your elec guitar, now you'll need to invest in your bass guitar.

Thanks for the tip about comping! I understand what you mean about the how a bass player can compress just the way they play. I always try and play as consistently as I can to get that smooth sound. You have to be gentle with that thing to get a big sound I find.
Yeah found that 700hz cut and 7K boost with a little 50hz boost was great! I love the low frequency energy and tightness that the API brought to my guitar.
haha, I know I need to invest in a better bass, now that I've got my guitars pretty sorted. lol.

ok. i gotta take you up on this. last time i tried importing any chemistry it cost me 15 years and my anus.
i'd post an image of my lunch box, but it's full of tea bags beside my fruit basket on the glass top table right now.
phew - enough euphemisms?
ok. i'll go away again.
nah - i love the possibility of the 500 series (i mean, some of the modules and kits are sooooo cool - sta-level, any one?) but i'm concerned about the voltage limitations. eg how can you run high tension tubes on 16V / 24V rails?
anyway, that's just sour grapes as i dont have modules or money!
