Hey Chris, just out of interest, what kind of shipping charge was required from LA to Melbourne for the mics?

It wasn't cheap..... $351 US., for 2 boxes. I remember getting an altec comp sent a few yrs ago and it cost $60, so there are 6 mics in aluminium carry cases with external power supplies and 4 ribons all in little wooden boxes. Too bad the Au dollar took a dive, as it ended ip being $500 au. Still cheap for the mic selection i will end up getting

Chance let me know today that mine had been sent but the package was too big and the shipping Co had held onto it for a few days. He has re packed it and it will be on its way to the Great South Land tomorrow.
Gosh he must have his work cut out for him with these little glitches happening.

Hi there,

I am keeping tabs with this on PSW and GS.

Chance is taking a few days off...there have been problems with the O'S stuff and USPS.
The jist of it being we will be the last to get anything...they are still doing Canada !

Hang in there its happening soon.

About the transformers ...they are from AMI/ funkinwerk and are about $75 US ea...go to console to find out more. They are not required in all mics but they are meant to make a big difference to the 1200's etc

Cheers

Cool - I'll have to check - I havent logged into the console for a while.
I got a 6802T and a 1200 so looks like it might be worth getting the new transformer..
I'll suss it out..

Hi there,

hope this helps....

"Great Group Buy News!

TNC announce Custom wound transformers for TNC microphones, at Group Buy Special Prices!

TNC have now aranged to offer transformers custom designed and hand wound for specific models of the TNC microphones. Also in the works are drop-in replacement electronics that will be designed to even better utilise the capabilities of the stock capsules, and also to integrate with certain of the custom transformers.

Transformers are designed and manufactured by AMI/TAB-Funkenwerk in Gaylord, Kansas, by Mr. Oliver Archut.

Electronics are being custom designed by Lucas Engineering technicians. They will be manufactured in the USA or the Bahamas, and will be available soon. We will also have available upgraded "pre-modified" microphones in each style, at some point in the near future.

TRANSFORMERS:

*Model ACM 1/2 ($75) This transformer is purposefully made for exact replacement in the ACM-1 or the ACM-2 ribbon mics.

*Model ACM3 ($65) Exact upgrade replacement for the ACM-3 ribbon mic.

(The stock ribbon mics all now share the same stock Chinese transformer. The replacement transformers have the same exact ratio, but the resonance and the high end response are tuned for each given mic.)

*Model T14-1200 ($75) Exact drop in replacement for stock ACM-1200. No electronics modifications necessary.

*Model T14-C12 ($75) Replacement transformer for ACM-1200, but can only be coupled with the custom C12-based electronics PC board upgrade (now in design by Lucas techs, but based on Oliver's original design parameters for the C12VR upgrade electronics).

(The T14-1200 transformers are based on the Hiller T14-C12 transformer (ratio 12 to 1), as used in early C12 mics, but have the ratio of 9 to 1 as used in the stock ACM-1200.)

*Model T47 ($85) Replacement transformer for ACM-1200 with U47-like transformer characteristics (BV8), but can only be coupled with the custom "47" electronics PC board upgrade (now in design by Lucas techs, and based on a simplified 47-inspired electronics circuit).

*Model T49 ($85) Replacement transformer for ACM-1200 with UM49-like transformer characteristics, but can only be coupled with the custom "49" electronics PC board upgrade (now in design by Lucas techs, based on a simplified 49-inspired electronics circuit).

*Model T67 ($90) Replacement transformer for ACM-1200 with U67-like transformer characteristics, but can only be coupled with the custom "67" electronics PC board upgrade (now in design by Lucas techs, based on a simplified 67-inspired electronics circuit).

(The 47-49-67 transformers are based on a Neumann-inspired transformer. They come in the three different ratios of 6:1 for 47-styled electronics, 10:1 for 49-styled electronics, and 7:1 / with feedback winding for 67-styled electronics.)

To order as part of the Group Buy, email to

tnc-transformers@compasspointstudios.com

Include name, shipping address, and payment information. Paypal capability is being worked out now, hopefully coming soon. For immediate orders, you can use a credit card.

We will try to answer questions, but be advised that our emails are going crazy, and there is so much to do on this "little" Group Buy that we have to focus first on shipments!

Please keep all commercial transactions off of the Forum.

All of this should make for a lot of fun and experimentation! We will try to put together a couple of youtube videos that show how to modify, and especially, how NOT to modify (ie, kill yourself).

Enjoy!"

Cheers

Hey GB'ers,

Just wondering who has ...........

1) actually received their gear

2) been invoiced for shipping but not received their gear OR notification of shipping

Also, what are peoples' opinions of the GB organisers current silence on the numerous preamp "issues"?
ChrisO.....I think. Oh, and F*#K Google, ask me!

Finally got my green yes. Paid.
With the conversion rate the way it is, the shipping will cost more in Aussie Dollars than the goods purchased when the dollar was good.

Oh well, them's the breaks I guess.

Anyone care to give an indication of what the shipping costs were and who they are shipping with.

I have 3 preamps and 4 mics.

Thanks

Hi there,

I/m thinking of selling my 2 x 73 as i don't want to pay that much postage...and what if the eq noise is over the top ??
Or worse still - they are DOA ??
I hate paying for stuff that is not tangible....postage, import charges, taxes etc

Then you got the price for the fixups...and who the hell is going to do that where I am ??

My feet are feeling very cold......

How bad is the Aussie $, just makes importing gear very unattractive.
I don't know about you guys but when I've imported equipment to Oz it seems to take Customs 3 to 4 weeks to get their there act together. Austpost from Customs 24hrs, USA to Aussie 3 to 5 days and Australian Customs 3 bloody weeks, but if there are public holidays involved then you looking at 4 weeks.
