In the middle of my studio build and beginning to consider interfaces and converters.

I currently run an apollo quad and an apogee rosetta and I'm pretty happy with it but the maximum I can get in i/o is 16. I was considering an apollo 16 to go with for a total of 32 but with the current exchange rate my silver apollo is now worth more secondhand than what I paid for it new and the 16i/o is crazy priced.

So, I like my apollo plugs and would like to stay with that but am unsure of the way forward. I could get a UAD processor and then go over to a different system entirely (maybe RME with 2x rosettas for 24 i/o) but was thinking I'd through it open to the brains trust.

What would you put in your studio? It's a private studio so I don't really care what would suit the most amount of visiting engineers, just what would suit me.

I have a hdx protools and a hd native protools an apollo quad pci card and a new hd 8x8 interface
And anynumber of old protools 192 ( 5 or 6 )
If you can hear some signicant thing between the old ones
And new ones you are more on it then me
I also have weiss da ad but for multitrack work
They have too much latency
The avid stuff has none i can hear work every day and they are just about free nowadays
Oh yes the rumour i am starting on the net today is bruce jackson designed the 192 !
He told me that one month before he died !

I've considered the HD route but not sure I want to go there. I use PT but haven't really enjoyed the cost associated with PT hardware/Upgrades. Can't say I've had an issue with any converter soundwise for quite awhile. functionality and longevity are really important.

There has been a few good words said about the MOTU 16 A. It's thunderbolt or USB2 with 16 TRS analogue in/outs and 2X8 ch adat optical. Looks good to me and my MOTU gear has given me better service that the Apogee ensemble thats been hit and miss over the years.

the lynx auroras have been very good to me
and really good bang for buck as far as channel count (especially if you have a few digital devices to use the digi inputs)
