hey all,

just saw NIN in brisbane, at the riverstage (outdoors). i have to say, the best sounding outdoor concert i have ever heard in my life.

i've seen arrays in use at BDO etc. and always thought they didn't sound great, but i guess with a decent sound check...

i assume mark will be at the sydney shows..

I'll agree that they sounded fairly impressive. Hugh improvement on sound quality compared to the last concert here. I'm sure not being in the in BEC was a big help.

All those in Sydney and Melbourne enjoy the multiple shows. I'm sure you will.

Did you notice if they were using a protools console again for this tour?

He's put the multitrack files up for 3 more tracks in the nin.com site.

Very generous considering people are stealing his album like they're trying to win a prize.

stealing the record? from the shelves? or online? i did read that cryptic post on his website saying 'as a reward for stealing my latest album here are some more multitracks...'

He also did have it streaming for a while, which makes it very easy to get a decent pirated copy if you have a bit of know how and some equipment..

Thats interesting, you wouldnt happen to know what NIN uses PT for live would you?? the dont have people performing that stuff on keyboards/samplers???

Well, I'd was going to all 3 syd shows, until he snapped and cancelled last night and tonight (and maybe the melb shows).

That sucks, I'm surprised after the show in Brisbane my friends all agreed that he seemed way more chilled out than last time he was here. Maybe he just dislikes Sydney, I seem to remember he cracked up last time they were there because people were clapping out of time.

he basically stopped an acoustic song which he was keeping time to very well on his own...then the clapping started, and he just basically said, "i cant do this" or something to that effect...coz sydney has no rhythm...what an awesome memory of our town!

then they broke into a heavy number....

how embarrassing....

I have always considered reznor to be bigger then god.

he had a few bad experiences in Sydney. in 2000 syd big day out. they were using the softball stadium and there was a yellow foul marker that was about 100 ft in the air. during NIN a guy climbed to the top of it and took most of the crowds attention. Reznor didnt know whether to keep playing. to stop and acknowloedge or make fun of the guy.... I have never seen a person look more pissed off.

his birthday next week as well.

Was lucky/unlucky enough to see NIN for the first time last night at the Metro in Melbourne...

The venue was perfect, nice and intmate and the sound, i thought, was brilliant... was also fun to watch the engineer behind the Digi Venue console checking out what he was doing.... which wasnt all that much...

Anyway there were some dramas...
Firstly about a 30min in to the concert the roadies brought out a laptop/contoller but after about 5min or so of trent rubbing his forehead he could not get the thing to work... saying "sorry, had something really cool for you as well"

Secondly his guitar ceased to work (i cant remember which song it was now) so while the band repeated the opening bars to the song over and over we waited for trents guitar to come back online... which it eventually did...

Thirdly and finally... during what was turning out to be a very moving and emotional rendition of Hurt (just trent and his keyboard) the entire crowd was silent save for one or two dickheads near the front who kept yelling out stupid shit like "whatta ya doin after the show trent?" so loud it could be heard clearly over the music. So a few lines into the second verse trent stop and says something like "do you think i cant hear you asshole??" and then "f@ck it we'll move on". The crowd was a bit stunned but as the band broke into "bite the hand that feeds" (appropriately enough) everyone started getting back into the grove... The song ended Trent threw his guitar onto the stage fllor and walked off... We all waited for them to come back on stage since it was only 11:15 and the concert was sposed to go till 11:45, but after much pleading from the audience the house light went up and people slowly came to the realisation the concert was over... Trent did walk back on stage but only to talk to the roadies, and all the while shaking his head at the crowd as if to say "not gonna happen".

So yeah it was rather dissappointing, there is no excuse for someone disrepecting a musician whilst trying to perform but to punish the rest of the crowd for it, I felt, was a bit excessive. So if that mental defective is reading this...thanks alot!

But it truly was a great concert, the lighting was great and the sound was exceptional...
And Josh Freese... well i pretty much didnt take my eyes of him the whole show... he is a drummer that really has one of those playing styles that make you have to watch him.

I just hope people going tonight and tomorrow have better experiences...

I'm sorry, but that's just inexcusable. I remember Jason Newstead from Metallica saying that his was not a job you could call in sick to. If there are 50,000 people out there who have paid to see you, you better be on it. Reznor might be a musical genius but he has no respect for his fans if he does that sort of thing. Biting the hand that feeds you indeed.

Or else do what the Beatles did and give up touring.

Maybe if more musicians did this, more people would shut up?

The last couple of big gigs I've been to, Roger Waters and Pearl Jam, people have just been yapping the whole way through the gig... it's not like tickets are cheap these days either! It shows a lack of respect for the artist and other concertgoers.

Or maybe Trent could have encouraged the rest of the crowd to engage in physical violence against the idiots... like Maynard Keenan apparently did in Brisbane with APC.

I think it was Brisbane anyway, I've got an mp3 of it somewhere.

I would still be asking for a refund. That's really poor form.

I mean would you yell at a pianist during a piano concerto?? Why should should a NIN concert (or any other band for that matter) be any different? Im not saying not to yell and scream and sing along, what I am saying is that when an entire crowd is silent because the artist on stage is trying to connect with the audience through a deeply emotional piece of music and communicate with only his vioce and a keyboard you damn well better shut your mouth...

There is a time to a yell and scream and a time to be slilent, i guess some people just dont know when these times are...

So i will not be asking for a refund, ill just be hoping that a certian someone learnt their lesson.

Yes we paid for the priveledge to see NIN, but not the priveledge to disrepect an artist... and although it was only one or two people that were the problem they obviously didnt understand that they were not only representing themsleves but also the enitre Melbourne crowd.

I agree with that too, I would just expect a little more out of a major name like Trent Reznor. He seems to do so much for his fans in the cyber realm but face to face seems not to be his strong suite.

I saw the monday night gig at the metro and by ALL accounts it was ucking awesome. Even trent said on the night that he was ready to give up on this tour because he felt it was cursed but that gig it all feel into place and boy oh boy what a place.

Interesting (but not after reading through what had happened the night b4) he didn't play hurt but he did play a few more tunes from YZ.

the only NEAR distaster was a full bottle of water hit the digidesign desk and splashed all over it (i was standing right next to it) the FOH mixer freaked but to his and the desks credit it didn't lose a beat. if the desk had off gone down on that night i think trent would of really HURT someone.

Amazing gig though in just about everyway and it's gone in2 my top ten all time gigs

Man having water go on the desk, I would freak out. Thats really good news that the desk still worked.

I've heard a few battle stories involving the digi desk now. All of them positive. I think it's surprising a lot of people just how good the desk really is given Digi's limited experience in live console manufacture. It's priced well, is well featured and can take a beating.

I read a small article in the paper that tells of some anger at the record company uiversal.

he asks why is cds are $10 moe then top 20 cds, and the record company responds with the packaging..... reznor says.... the packaging costs an etra 83c.... which I pay for anyway...... they then respond with... we feel you have a cult following who will pay any price for your material........
