Would this work for recording and mixing audio?

http://www.ht.com.au/N/4294967267+42949 ... detail.hts

Rack mounted and has the ability to act as FTP. Just what I need.

Anyone?

Can't see why not, but shop around as HT tend to be pretty pricey.

I just did an esata install here at work (imagery) 2.8TB in Raid5. Slow for writing but faaast for reading. Its for data supply on internal network.

NAS is slower than esata but no ftp access except through the PC its attached to for esata.

also check out iSAS or iSCSI- scsi attached storage - real fast with gigabit LAN. Prolly expensive tho', come to think - may be no faster than NAS on gigabit LAN. Not sure where the bottleneck is.

it all depends if you really wanna work directly off the external storage or just supply to the world from it I guess.

Id find out how network traffic affects seek, read and write speeds. Is it any different to accessing another PCs hard drives over GB LAN?

Just make sure you exteriorlize the 1010b with all your ata iSAS or iSCSI- scsi wusi binders or you won't get the same call out codes for your GB LAN folders 2.8TB(imaginary) ftp in Raid5. OK?
