I've recently acquired an old 24/16/2 Dynamix 3000 console which is in need of some maintenance. I was actually wondering if someone could recommend a place or person who could take a look and let me know how much I'd be looking at to get it into full working condition or even if it's worth doing at all.
There's a bit too much noise coming out and some of the channels don't seem to be in full working, but that's all I've been able to figure out so far.
The other question is, does anyone know anything about the Dynamix 3000? All google told me was that Dynamix was a company from the 80s that came and went fairly quickly, the rumour that was attached though said that it was an ex-Neve employee's company. The noise floor and noisy faders aside I'm liking what I'm hearing through it so far. Be cool to have this thing in full working order. Cheers.

Hi there,
I worked for Brashs for 15 years...we used to import them(Frank Hinton).
The 3000 retailed for around $15k at the time....this was around 1983.
The company was Star sound from London.
The problems with them were pretty bad soldering joints and flimsy frames(not so much in the 3000)
I actually owned a 24/8/2 3000 in the 90/s and i thought it was a pretty good sound aside from the noisy outputs...which i used to run a gate on the master outs !
I think if you search this forum there was some discussion about this last year and one of the guys on this list knows about the mods avail.
Anyways..thats a start !
Cheers

Hi,
I've got a 20/4/2 Dynamix which I re-capped myself. Its a nice sounding desk, very punchy with a broad older style eq. Noise can come down by proper grounding and cleaning it. Just a shame its not in use at the moment. I can agree with the bad solder joints.
From what I've heard (and please correct me if wrong) a lot of sound companies in the 80's started up but most didn't survive not having the skills to manage a business profitably and folded.
Is it worth it? Only you can say. It sure has a lot less electro caps than other desks and these will most probably need replacing. Not sure about the Neve thing, I think they might have being trying to make it sound like a neve and I think some models had the same input x-former (mine has no x-former on inputs)
It will probably cost a fortune to have someone else clean it up for you.
hope that helps, gotta go

it's hard to refurbish these older consoles without spending some money. It's not out of the question for the console to come over to us ( broadcastproaudio.com ) for a service / refurb / mod. Generally to ship a console back and forth between the eastern states and Adelaide costs around $400. We move consoles around all the time! Cost to refurb is hard to say without checking it out, happy to talk to you about it.

Thanks for the replies...
I've been mixing PTLE ITB lately and am pretty happy with the results, but this thing does feel like a kind of next step.
Speaking of the EQ I think broad would be a good description, the eq actually stood out for my tastes as very effective almost immediately. I'm not as experienced as probably most here (I've used all kinds of DAWs, Behringers, Mackies and a Midas, as well as just a little SSL and such) but it does seem like it's giving me a little something extra to just ITB, probably the transformers.
I might take you up on your offer Rob though I'll have to have a bit of time to consider it...
Thanks all,
F30.
