Reflection Filters.. Anyone used them??

I was thinking of getting one as I have an acoustically partially-untreated room at the moment..
Would this be an option to prevent reflections in recordings??

I have heard one in use and it really colours the sound of the mic and recording. Sure it improves it but it is not much of an improvement. I downloaded a Real Traps version of the same thing and you can hear the difference between the two side by side. Just make something yourself.

We have one in our studio (and also sell these - have sold a bunch to a lot of people including Leo Sayer and Augie March)..

we purchased one and used one before we decided to start selling them - just letting you know all of this to try and be as unbiased as possible!!

we love ours - it basically takes out the bad reflections and filters through the good ones (if that makes sense?!).. you don't notice so much on a single vocal but once you start layering vocals you can really hear the difference in the "mud" that usually builds up with the reflections. it does not "colour" the sound as HA_DA_JA said he heard, to me it basically controls the sound to be more pleasing especially on multiple vocals.

I have used it on guitar cabinets, in front of kick drums and also on vocals. We lent one to Garth Porter who also had great success using it with 2 x brass players side by side to help seperate their instruments.

well it is quite different. the SM Pro 'Mic Thing' is an isolation screen whereas the sE Reflexion is a Filter screen.
if you want more controlled seperation, or a totally dead vocal or to block out more noise use the Mic Thing. We have one of each and I won't track vocals without the sE Reflexion anymore. The 'Mic Thing' is better at isolating as that is what it's purpose is. the sE Reflexion Filter won't give you a dead room vocal sound but will give you a more natural clean sound which really sits nicely in the mix.

I have one of the SE's and I love it. The rooms I record in are offten far from perfect this has made it much easier for me doing on site recordings for vocals. A huge difference to most of my recordings.

Thanks for the info - I'm looking at something similar to either of these products to isolate a vox mic used for overdubs and some small session work (vox, ac gtrs).
Would make my life alot easier than hoisting blankets around a mic stand as a makeshift booth :-( It does the job, but it just doesn't look right!! :(
The SM Pro Audio item is certainly better priced for my limited budget, thats for sure..
I don't think you stepped over any boundaries by promoting either item - it allows for an informed view as you mentioned.

another good thing about the "Mic Thing" is it comes with the free boom stand (the sE reflexion needs a pretty heavy duty stand to keep it up!).. we have stock of both at the moment.

interesting Ad that they've made with the girl... i thought she was smokin' hot..

look how long her fingers are!!! she has enourmous hands... maybe she could hold them up in front of the mic and absorb some reflections

unfortunately the girl doesn't come with the stand/isolation panel! :shock:
