4 track mixes tricks?

Postby Text_Edifice » Fri Apr 17, 2020 6:02 pm

I've got this record to mix which has been (artificially) restricted to 4 tracks with the intention of mixing it from just 4 outs from PT into a console.

It's mostly guitar, vocal, harmony + stuff.

I'm finding so far there's a lot of space for bigger than usual vocal verbs and doubling / delays to widen guitars / fill out the image - but a bit of a risk of comb filtering.

I was wondering if anyone's got any good tips for getting maximum impact out of minimum means?

I've just finished a 4 track (tape) project. It's the best thing I've ever done.

The trick is to resist the urge to make everything big and fill up all the spaces.

Let the songs - not the sounds - be the star of the show.

That's good advice - I've been doing the opposite, because everything can be big, and not really enjoying it.
