Reverb unit hum related to remote?

Hi all,

I have an old Roland R880 that has been buzzing / humming a lot lately. It'll be fine for a bit, then get switched on to finish a mix and start up again.

Tonight I finally chased down the problem to the remote connection being too close to the power lead.

This seems odd to me for a bunch of reasons (the remote isn't in the signal path?) but, run the remote cable under the power lead and it buzzes, move the remote lead and it's clean.

I don't geddit.

Any ideas?

Is it in the actual signal path? Those remotes were notorious for being noisy themselves, it's a transformer that drives the display in the remote that vibrates. I remember the remote being turned off in between tweeking settings and storing to shut it up.

Yeah the noise is in the signal path - left channel buzz.

It sounded like an earth hum (so much so that I started looking for a loose solder point on the patchbay) - then yanked the remote cable and it went away.
