Has anyone started using RMG tape yet? How are you finding it?

yes. Done 2 albums on the sm900 2" I like it very much, hifi sounding and low on noise.

i have seen some really bad shedding problems , it was supposed to only be an isolated incident but yesterday a different batch came through and the masters fell to bits on me and i spent 1&1/2 hours of a 6 hour session cleaning my machine so i could play back the poor clients masters ,
the importer was as unimpressed as i was .
hopefully they will get it together before too long

I had a client report that some reels he got in were shedding at the first few passes but then appeared to settle down.

Rick,

I don't suppose you have any record of the batch number and date from that tape?

you know this is an current issue with the tape ( as in this weeks problem ) and the distributer ( musiclink) are being very helpful and doing all they possibly could to make sure its an isolated event

i am sure if you contacted them they would walk you through whats what number wise but it does not seem so wide spread that any kind of batch number is a certain culprit in fact i am sure it has them very confused as they have no other reports of problems with the batch i had

so i dont want to damage their efforts or business in anyway other then to report that i have personally had some major problems wih tape that a client brought to me this week

i have never purchased rmg tape !
so although music link are being very helpful to me on this subject they are not actually in any kind of business contract with turtlerock ie they do not have to care
so read this as the distributers are doing a great job and i do not want to hamper their efforts !

howard if your client has experienced problems and still has the tape box at hand i am sure music link will be very interested in the report and that batch number as well
ask for chris in their tech dept. he has been very very helpful and dilegent on this issue

if we all panic about this and rmg decide tape a bit too hard , well then it really will be bit too hard

of course the idea that it sheds then settles down is nothing new with tape , but the warning i have is if you do not clean the tape path once its dirty you can ruin your heads in a day - no problem at all

so as usual perhaps more then usual - check and clean your tape transport !

Rick,

I understand what you're saying. I'm aware of a guy o/seas with some recently purchased RMGI 1/2" SM900 who has had problems too.
