i went to antartica at christmas last year, everybody to do with anything down there is very concerned about the japanese whalers "upping the quotas"

but as there is no government making any money out of antartica in anyway now or in the future now that the international antartic treaty has been signed
no heads of government have any "real" pressure being put on them.


these kinds of operations will be the only way to make the problem a confronting issue for all governments

Cheers Rick, yeah I've been thinking long and hard all winter about this and every time I think about it I feel a deep sadness for what could happen to the humpbacks, it's been happening a long time with the other whales and cetaceans and I don't like that any better, but this is where I have to draw a clear line in the sand.

Every year the Humpback numbers have been growing and it shows if people leave them the hell alone they will be fine. Watching them move back down the coast put a chill up my spine and gave me a sense of urgency.

This Capt Paul Watson bloke seems like the real deal, has the ships and the man power, a true champion and deserves help. Seems to be the more moolah he gets the more whaling ships mysteriously sink.

Your trip to the Antarctic Rick would have been a fantastic trip of a lifetime.

The Aussie government has'nt done a single thing about this for fear of upsetting the Japanese government, I mean even just our government could stop this in our region, the Navy should be the ones enforcing the sanctuaries. I'm sure Peter Garret has pledged to send the Navy down in the future should Labor win the election.

The government should also ban the Japanese from fishing here if they keep breaking thier quotas, last year they took 3 times more tuna than allowed and they are allowed to take a lot of fish.

I'm an environmentalist at heart, will always be.

So c'mon guys if you can afford to send a few bucks to Sea Shepherd I guarantee you'll get a warm and fuzzy "neveish" feeling inside when a Japanese whaler is sent packing without being able to hunt anything.
