What happens when you play back at the wrong sample rate?

is this the bit where i admit to mastering an entire instumental album at 48 k playback instead of 44.1,
sure it was bumped up a bit in pitch
sure it was going a little fast
sure i listened to it that way for 6 hours ,
but the thing that made it ok for me was the client , composer and engineer sat behind me all day and did not mention the speed error , i mean the music wassomething i had never heard before but these guys had worked on it for months !
the next day i got the call wondering if something might of "happened to the sound in the mastering"
i got the client back in to see what the problem was , and although it WAS my fault all the client had to say for himself was " i thought it was a little fast on the day but i thought maybe i was so excited to be at mastering my head was racing a bit ."
as for the mix engineer and the record label well i never really heard there excuse for not picking it .
i have never made the same mistake again though
i bet the van halen crew wont either !

I gave a guy some tracks to mix at 48k one day and he mixed it at 44.1. He brought the track back and was a little embarrassed.
Geez Rick you would of thought the client would pick it instantly. Mistakes happen.

and also nice to see that someone else goes the giz(modo) - i thought maybe it was just me.
but on topic - it's a bit harder to miss a problem if you're going from 96k > 44.1k.

96 44.1 have never sat well with me........ too many numbers crunching, too much work on the processor....... I have been told by most people that I am a little left of the middle.....
I think I am the only sound guy that doesnt smoke, drink coffee or have an earing or tatoo

hey, if lord alge only records at 44.1 (source = TapeOp), then it can't be all bad, huh?
you know, once upon a time people didn't even have sample-rates to quote when spec'ing a studio. how did they survive?????
