well i think it looks great as it's definitely a response to consumer demand... but at that price, why not just buy an original mbox?

the new mbox mini has been a disaster for that very reason... so this one will probably go the same way.

It makes Logic Studio with the Duet evermore inviting.

I think $400 retail is not too bad if you dont already own a copy of tools.

If you've already paid for the software once then it should cost about...........i dunno..........$50 max!

Has the mbox mini been a disaster? I got mine cheap on evilbay and I'm pretty happy. Fine if you're just mixing.

I know a lot of people myself included brought a mbox mini, I think it hurt m-audio sales more so as a cheap way to get into pro tools. There has been talk about a dongle that allows you to use other hardware, which would be interesting.
Also the Apogee/Logic combo I recomended to a few people. Prefer to mix in Pro Tools myself

it's been a retail disaster, no one is buying it.

we have sold a bunch of mbox minis.
i have one.
it was the live desk tape thingy i was after. its also the front end for my smaart software.
most of the ones i have seen are used in this way. i didnt need a home recording thing. i just wanted a live thing that used PT. (i know it and its easy, didnt want to learn another piece of software for 2 trk desk tapes). i also needed a cheap 2 ch input for my laptop.

the micro, i believe is not aimed at the cheapest way into tools, but as a person with a full HD system in a rack, that wants to do some editing at home/in a cafe, not in the studio.
it gives this person the freedom to work anywhere else. we use mboxes for this (we cant use the old mix system as the software is a different version and this can be frustrating) we can do editing on another system, while the main room is being used for tracking/mixing.....

I bought and use the Mbox mini when I'm away for work, which is frequent. It's great having such a compact Protools rig on the road for mixing in my downtime, instead of staring at the idiot box. Got it on my last trip to The States too, so it was around the $300 mark. Cheap as chips!

To me its just another reason i'm glad i use logic....no breakout box needed, just plug in the phones and you are in business.

Having the box is handy for me, as when I'm on the road we sometimes have to record VO's and send them back to Sydney. Usually this is done via digi beta tape and then sent back, but having PT I can export the .wav as an OMF and upload it straight onto the server for audio post.
