Mix Critiquing/Review area

Following on from this thread http://www.turtlerockmastering.com/foru ... php?t=1339 I made some enquiries with the owner/admin of a forum I moderate on http://www.recordingproject.com/bbs/index.php and they've been kind enough to make a private area (sub-forum) available where we can upload mp3, 50MB WAV and Zip files.

This forum is not visible to the general members so any material hosted there will only be available to Turtlerock guys that have asked for access.

You will firstly need to register at RP then let me know your username so I can add you to the group, you should then be able to see and access "Down Under" in the Extra Private area of the forum index.

Also, there's no guarantees that this courtesy will be permanent but a lot could depend on us.

One thing I'd like opinions on is how many posts should a person need on Turtlerock to be granted access as I feel it's important that this courtesy is not abused.

Comments.........................???

i like this idea..

i've almost finished mixing my album...would love to get some tips!

maybe make the post threshold the lowest posting of a long time member? that way no one is unfairly excluded...

Or perhaps membership for a certain period of time. Another forum I frequent was having trouble in their for sale section with dodgy people signing up just to try to scam members. They restricted access to the for sale section to members of 3 months or more and most of the dodgy dealers lost interest.

My user name on rp is Kurtly.

Heath......you're in.

I think this "service" will only be available to people who have some form of track record here at Turtlerock, newcomers will have to spend some "quality" time earning their stripes.

ALSO, just a warning (or two)................This hosting service is not guaranteed to be permanent, RP's admin are considering a total revamp of the site and it's software and while they were more than happy to accomodate us, it was made clear that there may be changes further down the track.

Hopefully guys from here will occasionally participate over at RP, it isn't overly busy, it is comfortably moderated and there are some talented musos and all 'round nice guys there.

thanks for that Ausrock.

as for smooth running of the group......

i suppose it goes without saying (at least i hope) that if anyone posts stuff online, that it be kept safe...on the harddrives onto which it is downloaded...or even better so, deleted, after being heard and critiqued...

you cant really 'check" or make sure people are doing that,

but i know i would appreciate if people did do that, if it was my material which i posted online...

-Jamil.

That's good to hear.

Unfortunately, while things are still disrupted downstairs my PC is upstair without audio. For a laugh and to see a bit more about moi, you can have a look at this thread http://www.recordingproject.com/bbs/vie ... hp?t=30325

all in good time ausrock, my wife is away on her annual holiday and left me with the kids which is fine because in a week or so i am going on my annual fishing holiday with my brothers and dad ( trout fishing in the tassie).

then i have to front up a a few studio builds i am involved with in melbourne and need to have the paperwork up to date so i have something to show for their money ( or lack of it !) .
i have 1700 mouldy dusty and repetive JOK tracks to sift through and that job is becoming more about paperwork then music .
plus we are still way way behind blueprinting the studio ( still no big speakers on the floor but the mega tube amps are in, most of the meters are in, the digital routers are in, the custom wound esoteric magical cable is in from japan all 900 meters of it ! yes i went for the whole deal - special balanced double grounded power cable, test reference quality digital cable and the ultra low capitance balanced audio - the lot ....)

and the parkside console is finally nearly looking finished just one more module to come across , then its done errm i mean ,of course we are going to pull apart again and rewire with the new magical cable after christamas !

late at night after i have been up since 6am each day getting the kids sorted i am doing the acoustic prep work for a major new video post house here in sydney which requires much too much paperwork,
oh yeah AND i work at Turtlerock during the day making peoples records sound nice .

and of course i log in here twice a day to make sure the farm is kicking along .

so ermm .... the last thing on my mind is logging in to another forum on the world wide waste of time to listen to unreleased tracks at night ...

its not that i wont because i am sure i will :)
its just that i cant :(

well not untill my wife and I go on our annual christamas holiday !
last year we went to antartica !... oh how things change with two kids under two !
this year we are going to gosford ! !!

oh yeah while i am having a winge and my futura spat a bunch of oil last and ending up in the shop for a complete heart transplant , so i am completely out of money as well :(

update on ricks lifes .... broadcast complete.

hmmm that uber-top-shelf wiring pushes all the right audio nerd buttons!!

i got excited when i bought my first roll of canare mic cable! (still going strong... not one broken in 200+ gigs and 500+ recordings)

i think the forum is a good idea, i wouldn't have gone near it but the private group thing is very cool... i'll be checking it out to learn a bit, cheers for setting that up mr aus 'jackhammer' rock!

rick, a holiday WHILE the futura gets a XR6 turbo driveline... now that sounds good...

Damn Rick, was it that long ago that you went to Antarctica? Mate, I fully understand the being busy thing.............at the time the water problems hit downstairs here, I was already behind in my list of projects around the house, plus trying to get a property up the coast ready to rent out, unfortunately, all those things have been ignored for over six months as we get over having wet feet.............one of these light years I'll have the studio back together and my workshop (and upstairs) won't be a bloody storage area, I might even find my lathes buried somewhere :-)

Martin, you're OK at "Down Under".

i started out trying to up a 320kb mp3 which i thought would be fine for the purposes... didn't work but a 16 bit, 48k WAV seemed to work okay... just took a while to up
