Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend a mic type, pattern, make or model for a church lectern?

The issue in particular is to accomodate various individuals with limited mic experience and of various stature, including kids. I need something that is "forginving" in regards to the readers distance off the mic. Background noise is not a problem nor is feedback usually.

It's just when an adult uses the mic maybee 150 mm off the mic, followed by maybe a kid who ends up being 450 mm off the mic. we've tried to educate them about mic technique without much success. It is also desirable not to have the mic obscuring the face of the reader.
any ideas?

Shure MX412-C or the MX418 might be a good choice. Not too expensive either.. RRP $475.00 but you can probably get a better deal..

Get a fader installed in the arm of your pew.

This would also give you great practice riding levels. Sorry...I don't have any sensible suggestions

Maybe a PZM (routed through a compressor) on the top of the desky part, might get a lot of paper rustle etc though.
JTS do some lecturn mics I think, no idea what they're like though.

I have been using an Audio Technica U857Q in this exact application now for a while and am very happy with the results. Look at the others in the AT Unipoint range - there may be something else more suitable for your specific application.
