Ok who uses Logic around here?
I just bought it when Logic Studio first came out, I thought for the price I just had to have it and it seems now after using it for a while, I made the write choice. Cheap, great for writing songs and tracking especially, but mixing and editing I'm wondering why they made it so hard, well compared to PT HD.
Getting back to tracking. I now have the Apogee Ensemble with the Macbook dual 2 which makes live location work a breeze, 1 rack, 1 lunch box, 1 hard drive and a laptop, oh and bunch of mics, ok stands/leads, but no more back breaking 5ft high racks.
If you haven't tried the Ensemble I suggest you do......it's really amazing and will run stand alone with your PT HD or LE system, or for Logic guys, straight into your firewire. How cool is that.

I've used Logic since it first went audio from being a Midi sequencer. Some of its functions are clunky, I'd agree, but then again PT has never produced the "logic killer" that would make me switch - in fact, quite the opposite, all I hear about PT scares me. Logic gets the job done and I guess you work best with what you're used to.

I use Logic. Just upgraded to version 8 and I'm happy to report that they have fixed ALL the things that nagged me about logic. This includes

- single window (rather than several floating windows that always seem to get muddled up, even with screensets)
- simplified take recording (ie you can now record takes and recall them, rather than fcuk about with extra tracks)
- super-easy comping of multiple takes
- easier track adding (you can just say how many tracks you want, starting from where and incrementing or not, even whether track starts in record)
- better arrange mixer thingy - you now get both the track and the output group
- super great cubase-style navigating around the arrange window, including zooming using the playback stripe

Works perfectly with my apogees.

All in all, it's well worth upgrading. smokes protools IMHO (and yes, I now have protools too for other engineers/producers).

I've used Logic since Version 5. I'm running Version 7.2 at the moment and won't be switching to 8 for at least another 6 months, waiting for all the kinks to be ironed out.

I've used DP and Tools and can see strengths in all of them. I'm just familiar with Logic so I will probably stay with it as long as it does what I need.

I went the logic route for two reasons mainly (they're kinda trivial, but aren't most...?)

1. I freaking hate developers who dominate a field, then don't seem to have any imagination or forethought for end users, apart from dominating further.. PTHD sounds really good, but I wont be able to justify buying 96 or 192 i/o's for a fair while... especially when I can hire them if needs be.

2. I'd spent 12 months on PT in school and was kinda bored, so wanted to learn something new..

Oh, as an aside, whats with with people saying logic has a bad 'sound'?. I had a salesman (yeah, i know) tell me that 'logic sounds like your audio is coming out of a dirty sock' ('As opposed to a clean sock' a clever guy said to me after i related the story to him). This dude also tried tell me some deadringer pre's were 'a good option'.

Logic 8 has definitely cleaned up any gripes i had with the system, the flows around the program are a lot better. And even though this is version 8.0, i feel like its a bit more stable than 7. The updates should make this even more apparent i would think (or hope).

I'm another Logic user. Just got 8 but will finish the current project before i load on. Never realy used anything else exept cuebase and that was early days.
Most of my work is audio, using midi when i have to.

I use Logic 7 still, although I've got 8 - too many things a bit whiffy about 8 just yet. When they put back the Audio Config window and enable aliased text I'll be swapping permanently. I've used it since it was Notator on the Atari and I love it, although I think Apple have dumbed it down a lot to get more sales, and turned themselves into Microsoft as well. But it's truly astounding value for money!

I've got Logic 8, and an Ensemble, and compared to the sound of my old Alisahd LE rig, I'm in heaven.

I got the Duet at first but only having 2 x pres was not good enough, just had to have more so the Ensemble was a must.
