Epic track, pretty cool for sure. I can't believe Martin has'nt painted that front door a different colour though. Better room and toys than when I was there too, many years ago.

Well it's all cool for sure.....and a nice track....but actually it got me thinking about music videos in general.

This is probably a topic for its own thread...but does anyone think that the "music video" has done anything for music appreciation. I'm sure it helps sell music..but does it help people to enjoy music more?

There has been a lot of discussion about people's (particularly the latest generation of music consumers) lack of appreciation of music...being everywhere all of the time..."sonic wall paper" etc

I would suggest that the rise of multimedia with music as just one part of the package has been a major contributor to this state of affairs.......

To my mind the exception may be footage of a band playing live on stage, with an audience..... but a vocalist standing in the middle of a field of barley with an invisible 90 piece orchestra providing the backing...or musos playing in a studio, for that matter?

Any thoughts?

i just made this video because i love 'making of' style documentaries in the studio

when i can see my favourite bands playing the takes that are actually on the album (dream theaters systematic chaos dvd is great for this, and mike portnoys whole line of studio drum cam footage)

ive worked with these guys a few times and i think they are fantastic
the vocalist is very very good, awesome harmonies, always super tight

the band is also very tight especially the drummer

the other reason i made it is because i like to look at pieces of studio gear in studio footage of a band recording

in general, the song isn't particularly to my taste, but i LOVE the drum sound. its really great man (even from youtube audio).

Looking forward to checking out this vid, but in answer to the above...sometimes. Mainly when the video itself is high quality art.

But especially so with live stuff. I rarely enjoy live albums, but love live vid's. You get that performance aspect. I even like a music vid where the live stuff is superimposed over the studio track.

But otherwise, I know what you mean. E.g I can't imagine watching music video for any track off Dark Side of the moon - unless of course it's the Wizard of Oz.

Am I getting old?

When I mention "starting Dark Side Of The Moon at the 3rd roar of the lion on Wizard of Oz" to the kids who record with me these days, they look at me like a dog that has just been shown a card trick.

Hell, someone asked me who Spinal Tap was in my studio last week. Session stopped right there and then and I made them watch it (off the clock)!

Sorry to be off topic, but I feel better someone else knows about the Pink Floyd Wizard of Oz experience.

to me, music videos have (some time ago) come into their own as artforms....

even though they may be the "pretty side" of music marketing, they are still incredible....watching anything directed by Chris Cunningham (Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy"...or Madonna's "Frozen")...is probably proof enough of the power of video in conjunction with sound....that said..

there is alot of music video content that is plain crap, or doesnt serve the music very well...

and also, we need to keep in mind the tremendous talent drought we have in modern society...music videos help heaps in this regard...especially if you get a 1 chord faux 60's rock band with no talent...you need some artsy fartsy art video to cover up the fact the song sucks ass...

i remember a time when King Crimson's Lark's Tongues in Aspic was close to the top of the Billboard Charts...those guy's didn't need music videos...anyone else remember that time?
