Being a newbie to the scene and us newbies slowly acquire new gear. We tend to buy cheap stuff and then come to the realisation that if you want to sound like the records you hear you have to have a reasonable mic, mic pre, compressor etc. that you hear on those records. Which leads me to replacing a cheap shock mount for an MXL mic. I bought a MXL V69 Tube ME limited edition mic some years back and replaced the tube to something more upmarket, but the problem now is that over the years of use the shock mount has fallen apart.
My question is - is there a quality product that you more senior engineers can recommend for a replacement for this instead of buying another cheap one? I still like using this mic.

Is it just that the elastic has frayed, or something more serious?

I've just redone the elastics on a couple of my shockmounts, but rather than pay the somewhat breath-taking price asked by the manufacturer, I made my own using hairtie elastic from Spotlight, some female bullet nose connectors from Dick Smith and a clipping of heatshrink to cover the join. Total price for 4 shockmount elastics - less than $5 with spare left over for next time.

I'm not sure I'd do this with a Wagner, but for anything of less lineage I'd give it a go.
