Hey Guys,
I just got a little windfall this week (for my 40th) and am undecided on getting some gear.
Not really WHAT to get, but what FORMAT to get.
THE DILEMMA - do i go 500 series or the full 19"?
I've been a 19" rack guy for yrs and love it, but the 500 series is quite compact and obviously cheaper (than 19" gear).
I already have 19" gear and plent of spare slots for more..
Any suggestions on clearing the fog?
Tim..
Heath, I was going to call u, but havent got your number - can you plz PM.

Yeah buying gear is always a dilemma if you know you want something but not sure what it is. The lunchbox route is very attractive price wise and the build quality is usually superb though sometimes fiddly.
What are you looking for anything in particular? Such as comps or eq or pre's or mic's.
If you want bring some mixes with you to run through the gear or I've got plenty of projects loaded up I can give you a demo on.
If your after a comp the ones I've got are definately worth checking out, especially the Smart C2 and the api2500.
Though if you get into the lunchboxes you'll end up an addict like Nic, he'll have a 3rd and 4th soon you watch, haha.

I know, I know.... genius. :P
Yep. And some mics. Oh, and some software.... And don't forget the room treatment......And some new instruments.....Ummm
There's more but you'll need a bigger windfall.
It's definitely an addiction. be careful or you'll get it bad.

Depends on what particular gear you want. If you want specific manufacturers gear it depends on their format. I don't see any Smart comps comin out in 500 format in the forseeable future. But, then again there are some really nice pieces being made for the 500 format now and I think we will see more new ones to come as it's a little cheaper way for designers to get into the game. In which case an API 500V would be cool, 10 slots and a decent power supply unlike some of the smaller lunchboxes.
Now me, personally.... I hit the big 40 a few months back. I bought myself a pair of V72's to celebrate. I didn't actually really particularly need them, but like a 21st, it only happens once. And they sound awesome with a capital awe. If I was being practical I would have got in a C1 and a C2 and kept the one I preferred, but who wants to be practical in their 40th? Odds are pretty soon you will have to cut out prawns because your cholesterol is getting high so I say buy something that will make you smile whenever you see it and hear it. Then at least you will love the sound while you sit there eating your low fat cheese. Which tastes like cardboard BTW.
Now I have to go scour the net for a used C1....
Happy 40th.
