Does anyone know or have any suspicions of who it is that's selling the unbranded (nude) ribbon mics on local Ebay? They appear to be remarkably similar to some of the mics that came through on the big "group buy" on some recording forums in recent times.......well, they look "similar" but they're certainly priced way above the group buy prices.

i think they're 'legacy' / 'legend', aren't they? that/those brands have been doing a bit of plugging - full page ad in Audio Tech etc so i'd expect they'd be pushing into ebay as well . . .

That's the guy I'm talking about, however, the various mics he is selling are unbranded (nude). I ask a question about them a couple of weeks ago and this is the answer I received....................:

That said I'm not particularly suprised at your question although I hadn't heard of this happening this far across countries per se!
I have a pro audio business (not related to the mics) that takes me overseas a lot.
I've been sourcing a number of mics "nude" direct from Russian and Chinese factories.
Many of the mics I've been selling are offered at huge markups just becuase they have named brands who are onselling them.
Unfortunately I've been advised that I shouldn't directly mention particular brands in any promotions or correspondence as it may leave me liable to litigation and may lead to my supply lines being cut. The chinese are definitely sharing machining templates as I often see the same mic in several different factories.
It is possible that this has spread further than I know.
I often am asked whether this or that is of chinese origin with the preseumption that it of a lesser quality....I firmly believe that the chinese (and for that matter the russians)can build as good a mic as anyone in the world...the question becomes at what price point do you want it delivered...Many of the chinese factories have their own anechoic chambers and extensive test equipment. I myself have the facilities and test gear to be able to verify the specification numbers on the mics I'm selling...The first mics I put up (and I'm doing this as a development project just to gauge what market, if any, exists)I offered to provide independent freq. vs magnitude plots for the mics using EASRA but nobody was interested...

Anyways this is a good mic and well worth a punt IMO...I've sold one other on ebay and had positive feedback, That sale led to me providing several others...all folks have been happy with the purchase.... "


......................believe him or not. If he's paying similar prices to what the group buy guys paid, then he's making a killing on each mic he sells.
