Hey guys,

I'm scaling back the studio to focus primarily on my writing and producing.... things I'm good at, not recording and mixing...

I've already sold my NS10Ms (well, a guy's got 'em and he's promised me money, AND I know where he lives)... and I'm looking for a pair of powered near-fields to suit... I'm primarily doing electronic stuff, with some vocals, guitars and kit here and there... myspace/theforgottenconcept if you're interested...

SO...

currently looking at the following models and after some advice from anyone who's used them in the "real world" before I go out shopping with my little reference CD in hand...

Mackie HR824 MkII
Dynaudio BM5A
Genelic 8030A
Tannoy Reveal 8D

Also open to any suggestions not on the list between $2k and $3k (pair)... then on to save some more $$ for the Apogee Ensemble!

828 mkII vs.... anything!

I have one, can't wait to upgrade. Ensemble looks great. Especially from a Mac/Logic pov.

Haha... I have an 828MkII as well and HATE it..... hence heading for the Ensemble. I've been on Logic since V3, so as soon as I heard about the Ensemble it went on the list. Only now am I getting around to setting stuff up properly again.

The Mackie 824MkIIs seem to be getting good reviews though... I just need to hear they're ok from someone who's opinion I 'trust'...

you should look at the PMC TB2s as well

Or even Event ASP 8's, for cheap monitors they sound great. $2000 a pair at Turramurra.

uuhhhhh I dunno... I just want something decent that I can listen to all day and make sure harmonies are in tune, bass and kick line up and all the electronic fluffs and flutters aren't muddying everything up too much, all without my ears getting so tired they feel like they're full of water... and they have to keep the creative juices flowing... they have to sound a bit inspiring... so I guess a bit of hype is ok....

has anyone used the 842mkIIs.... do they sound better than the original model?

In other posts Rick has said mixes brought to him generally sound better off the mackie's than the genelics and dynaudio's... (I'm pretty sure that's what he said) so they can't be all bad.... but everyone's tastes are different....
