Have you defined the appropriate driver in the device setup menu? It sounds like you have no master Audio driver selected possibly.
When you click on the devices menu it's the last option down the bottom of the dropdown menu called "device setup", click on that then there's a box to the left that appears with a list of stuff and you choose "VST Audio System" and select it in there. There may be a few choices, but if you have an ASIO driver as a choice that one will give you the lowest latency.

Does the 002 even support ASIO? I hate the f&^%ers, I had to record on one up in Syd last week and it sure sounds crunchy compared to what I'm used to.

not using the 002 conversion...hiring a Prism Stereo AD...going into PT with SPDIF...i dont think the 002's sound will be an issue then...

im so peaved, up until now, EVERYTHING audio has worked flawlessly...

JK, I guess you are on a Mac..
AFAIK, you should be able to use Digidesign hardware with other software.
Although, using an ASIO driver or the wavedriver from Digidesign should allow you to.
Check the Digi site - should have more info there.. and appropriate drivers..

Also, try this..

What sample rate are you trying to work with, I've had trouble with Nuendo and spdif before with sample rates higher than 48K, spdif is supported at higher rates but my rme card won't allow it.

If you're working at 44.1, ummmm buggered if I know, most likely to be 1 button somewhere. Sorry Jamil.

Only other thing I can think of is the monitoring setup in vst preferences not being set to tape machine style, but that won't effect playback, only effects record monitoring.

hey guys

at the moment...im just trying to get the box working in general....it wont even open up protools....wierd...

so i tried using cubase, that seems to be giving more problems, i dont care what i record in, as long as i can record!! haha

i havent even crossed the SPDIF bridge, will be recording at 48K, so the SPDIF prob ur talkin about maybe wont be a prob ?

tried using the digi line ins at the moment....still to try a few more things...

i cant even find a CoreAudio driver for PC that is an EXE, all i can find is .bin files.

digi bloody design!!! ARRRRGH!!!!!

Yes Digidesign suck balls (in my opinion, anyway). Man I hate Pro Tools. Although I have found my 003R works with Nuendo without a problem.

What are the Specs of the laptop you are using.

a) O/S
b) Processor
c) Ram

What version of PTLE are you running?

BTW, I can absolutely confirm that you can use digi hardware with third party apps.

For Mac Only, you use the Core Audio Driver
For PC use the ASIO driver for PC http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?lan ... emid=23087

You can't use third party interfaces directly with PT, so maybe that's where people got confused.

Smash.

you'll need to download the appropriate windows driver for the 002.

it was a few years ago, but i once had to set up a 001 with nuendo on a PC - worked flawlessly, but only after finding the right driver on the digi website.

are you using XP? i'm pretty sure vista is not supported yet (?)

oh, i see it's a laptop... digi hardware is very picky about PC hardware, especially laptops. the compatability pages will tell you what works and what doesn't.

using a 002 with PT 6.9

Laptop = NEC 2GB Core 2.2 Duo with 2GB ram...running Vista

so plenty of juice,

thanks for the confirmation smash, i knew it was possible.

half the confusion is coming from the complications...i've never had problems installing cubase on anything....ffs.

thanks for the link smash :)

PT 6.9 won't work with Vista. Support for Vista only came with PT 7.4.

So you have the Digidesign ASIO driver installed, and selected in Cuebase? And still can't get it to work? Got your inputs and outputs selected?

gday roy, nothing was working....installing the 002 seemed to make my PC start running shit...must be allergic :P

nah, i bailed on the 002....too much headache, it was giving me migraines (no joke).

if i cant work out how to basic install something without going onto a forum...there's something seriously wrong with the software/hardware...

i think digidesign hates its customers....coz the Motu took 4 minutes to install...i didnt even have to do anything, it just installed itself....

yo tim,

it could have been a multitude of things....i was sick of playing spygames with it though.....seriously....i just wanted to record some damn tunes!!!

what i cant stand is that I have WAY older software on my comp than PT 6.9...and that has no probs...and if there is a prob, i dont need a philosophical explanation from the Lhama of Dharamsala to work out what it is...digidesign must employ tax agents for computer programmers, i dont get it at all.

funny thing is, i use PT more than any other software for recording, but always in other studios...so i never have had to deal with the installation side of it before !

Yeah I know JK... I feel you're pain. I'm sure there's a lot of people here feeling the same. I reckon Pro Tools was made by crappy programmers or made on a really cheap budget or something. It's extremely buggy and I could give you a really big list of things I hate about Pro Tools over nearly every other brand of software but I'm sure you're already starting to realise them for yourself.

Well hang in there, man. I'm sure you'll figure it out eventually. (Or just burn the 002 and get something MOTU hehehe). Good luck dude.

What version of PT were you using? PT (V.7+) install drivers for most Digi hardware (002, 003, D-Show, Command 8, C|24, Control24, HUI-MotorMix,etc - I just checked my Controllers folder)
I had an MBox (original) before I got my 003. I recently recorded Pennywise at Luna PArk and just showed up with my laptop - plugged straight into the D-Show which was doing FOH duties and it automatically detected the new hardware - I just had to re-assign the I/O and everything was sweet.
You should be able to change between your MBox and your 002 - just save you I/O settings for each piece of hardware.
