Don't feel bad, so did I (well a couple of weeks ago).

Business decision, had to do it.

Still prefer logic though, although I must admit I'm impressed at how stable it is. It hasn't crashed ~once~.

Business for me too. Logic 7.3.2 keeps crashing when importing OMF and AAF files. Apparently it has an aversion to OMF's with over 90 events or something. I picked up an Mbox factory dealy from Sound Devices for a good price and Digi Translator off an ebay seller for $200. It will pay for itself in 2 days..... but no matter how hard I scrub the dirt just won't come off.

Do you feel any more pro? A pro with tools could have been more fun.

I joined the club today,

I got a pro tools rig this week

I have been using other people for along time and now I have one and for the first time in history I am researching plug ins and I am at the eventide plug, melodyne and the waves studio bundle

Wait for the new Melodyne DNA - released next month I think - looks awesome - check out youtube for details - someone posted a link in a thread a little while back..

Just an Mbox 2 for me.... it does the job for TV stuff. Thanks to Jamil I picked up the PSP Xenon, Neon and Vintage Warmer plug ins. Man, they are good. Worth checking out Simon.

Yeah the psp plugs sound great, the mastercomp is good too for a plugin comp, cpu hog though. Xenon eats the L2, sounds way more transparent to me.

i have an alesis hd24 gathering dust if you're serious. i'd be willing to let it go for not much, or a decent trade. it doesn't have the analogue 96k card, but i'd factor that into the deal...

I would'nt go back to a mackie, I loooove my pc, well I hate computers but... as far as computers go mines pretty good.

Importing files into the hdr is a PITA. Though I'll admit as a stand alone recorder they are great.

LMAO..............Yep, I know what you mean.

I guess much depends on what "level" a person is working at and what their individual inherent "preferences" are...........I mean, not everyone is trying to make a living (either full or part time) out of recording and not everyone is naturally comfortable with every "methodology" available. Personally, where possible I prefer the more traditional options blended with OTB digital, it's likely to be a cold day in hell before I consider "endorsing" PT or any other multitracking in my PC. Sleeping with the devil just isn't my cup 'o tea ;-)

todddd - i'll definately have a chat to you. but the way interest rates are is making everything pretty tight. your cheap may not equate to my wifes idea of cheap.

and heathen - i do love my PC. built it myself (well, iteration # 6 or so) it's silent, runs cool and has huge processing power and storage.

but . . . it's still a computer, innit?

i know i can't afford 1" tape (or more to the point, my clients can't), so a HDDR is the next best thing. faster workflow than tape, and it's NOT A FLAMING COMPUTER.

(that said, tracking to HDDR and then editing in 'tools doesn't totally suck arse)

Well i just started using a Mackie HD24/96 because

a) it was available
b) it is a lot less clutter for mobile recording.

Yes the noise floor isn't great but then again the venues aren't Carnegie Hall. A few racks of pres and a small board to monitor and i'm away. The only downside is the USB 1 for dumping the sessions, but that just means more turtlerock reading time. Then use Pro Fools or Logic whichever the client prefers.
