Hey all.

I have mate who's a bass player who is looking for a compressor for his live rig.

Any players out there who are can recommend any units?

Price is not really an issue, but always an issue.

this compressor's meant for guitar...not sure if it sucks bass out of a bass signal....either way, its a parallel compressor, in stompbox form...and transparent enough, which is a nice remedy to the every present coloured compressors out there...

havent used one myself...but have been told by trusted people that these rock... again, not sure about bass though :)

The Aphex Punch Factory is good, it's an optical comp pedal. Metering isn't great but as always use the ole ears to judge to your liking. Demeter make one called the Compulator but I have not heard this on bass, but all reports are good

An original BOSS CS-2 - the best comp for the money (if money is an issue)..
Not the CS-3 one either (newer) - the 2 knob one.. Big difference.
Other than that, you could try;
Ibanez CP-9 (if you can find one - I have one)
T-Rex Squeezer (tube based comp)
Keeley Compressor (awesome)
Aphex Punch Factory
Carl Martin (excellent)
Electro Harmonix Black Finger
Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer (good for country guitar stuff too)
Way Huge Aqua Puss (cool pedal)
Demeter Comp-1
MXR Dynacomp (Script Logo one)

Rack ones are ok,

could also try a TC Electronic Triple C ...

multiband comp on live bass, could be sweet.

Distortion. Something with tubes, perfect compressor.

Just another thought, the Sansamp Bass Driver pedal is part of my live electric bass rig. It's not a compressor but it does something that smooth's it all out. Definitely worth a try. And it gets great raves from famous engineers on PSW forum. It is also not the same as the rack version, the pedal just has some mojo.

+1 for the sans amp.

A Big Muff would do the same - smooth things out..

True Kris - I didnt think about a rack rig for bass gtr - good point.
However, there are some seriously sweet pedals for bass rigs out there too..

just get a Bass POD. They can do anything!!! (insert sarcasm icon)

Get a purple MC77 rack unit. Best Bass comp I've heard.
