Tube Replacement

Postby HA_DA_JA » Fri Jun 27, 2008 9:50 am

I know this could be a petty thing but if you are going to replace a tube you may as well get the best.
I have a Demeter Stereo Tube DI rack and the cheap Chinese tubes it (x3) need to be replaced.
I use it mainly for Bass recording (5 strings - love that lower B action) and keyboards. What suggestions would you have got a nice 12AX7 replacement taking into consideration
that it would need to have a nice bottom end sound as well as having good definition for the lower B string and lower keyboard stuff ?
Cheers

Depends how much you wanna spend - modern stock I've had good results with Ei Elite Golds and there's always Elctroharmonix. NOS you could drop a lot more coin for Tele's smooth plates or Mullards, but be sure you know you are getting NOS, not used that's just been reboxed. I don't know the Dmemter stuff, with some gear it's really not worth spending the extra on NOS tubes as the limitations of the circuitry make it hard to hear a difference.
