What are people using as a replacement?

if you can find a good octavia mc 101 your on
it only took me two sets to find a good pair which i then sold to somebody on the forum who bought them i cant remember ..?
i sol them in a period when i wasn't using them because i was too busy
i havent tried to get anymore because i am still in that period - i think they call it fatherhood !

presumably the rhodes mics must be up to the task but i have no experience with them

of course the km184 your not sure about are fine as well - dont believe the hype

I still like my AT3031's in that role, but then I'm into cheap mics.

the Kel HM1's are cool. nice and dark. controls bright brass / guitar cabs / cymbal-bangers smoothly.

I've got an 'almost matched' pair of old KM 85's..
the bass roll-off (starts to roll off just below 400Hz) might be too much for you but you could use them if you liked..

Beyer MC930 do a great job. I could lend you a pair if interetsed.

Hi MFDU - have been looking at a Pair of the Kel's for a while based on rep but have been put off because a) haven't actually heard them in action and don't believe the hype and b) postage cost from the states was brutal.

Any chance you can elaborate on your experience with the Kel's - also wondering if you found a cheaper way to get them into the country.

i believe mercenary have revived something thats "supposed" to be a re issue, with all the pizazz of the KM84.

The KM-69's look like nice mics - considered a pair before getting my Neumanns..
Nice price too.. I had forgotten about these little rippers..

i can't help on the traffiking side of getting kel's. but the sound blew me away.
i had them side by side with a dark ribbon, and they had a similar colour, but they were much more detailed in image and captured more transient impact.
say, ribbon tone, NT5 detail?
i'd definately not push one out of the mic cupboard if it farted. i like dark mics, and see a lot of use in it, single or as a pair. hell - it'd make it worth turning phantom power on!

das what I hear also - dunno what the oktava 101 i slike is that the lomo capsule with mc-012 body ??

I like my MC-012's alotta pls prefer 'em to KM-184's .. butsss errmmm ...

I thought about these as well but they don't have the 10db pad. Rumour has it that it may be included in a later version.

A pair of AEA R84 ribbons would do the trick.

I have a pair of Neumann KM84's and a pair of Josephson C42's. I would rate them as equals. The C42's don't have a pad but don't need one, plenty of headroom.
