Comparisons of Neve type pres

Hi there,

Just throwing this out there to anybody who has experience with all
or any of these.

I am stuck in *Neveish mode* at the moment and am looking
for a pair of pres and tossing up between a pair of reissue AMS Neve
1073's, a chandler LTD 1 (i have one already) or a JLM thing (which i have never heard but all reports are good) or a rack of Neve V (prism) rack (seems not much love out there for it)

Any comments greatly appreciated (and no, a pair of original 1073 are out of the ball park:)

I wouldn't knock back a Prism rack it it wasn't too dear. Pretty cluttered panels mind you.

What about Brent Averill 1073's, same sound without the 30 year old pots and switches.

I think the AMS Neve would be the same as the original but wow they are expensive. I agree that the BAE 1073 would be a good choice or if you are happy with the LTD-1 get another one.

why not start with a JLM 99V pre...? relatively little damage on the pockets, and u get to confirm the rumours :P

(make sure it comes with selectable impedances, damn i love that knob :P )

I have a pair of the BAE 1073's and they sound great. Haven't tried the others you mentioned. Try to organise some demos.

Trying to get a real Neve in there somewhere for the studio karma...
clients don't know BAE or JLM (even if they are just as good !)

I was originally looking for a console like 8128 or similar....but maitenance issues
are too much for me (up here)...so it will have to be a couple of channels and a heap of other outboard !

He he, Most of my clients wouldn't know a 1073 from a Behxxxger.

The BAE looks and sounds acurate, but, if you want Neve just buy Neve. The new Ams Neve 1073 are nice but expensive.

i can make good mic/instrument preamps from these neve circuit boards i have. b535 and b538.
they are all transistor original neve made boards ex of a television broadcast network machine room.
