sorry for the thread Hijack jon, but thank you to jamil and Mitch........I generally have no problems with shipping stuff, then I realised the obvious, its a Ribbon. and knowing the 4.5 months an ongoing saga has been going on with OZ post about a speaker they dropped something on and refuse to admit fault, everyone from the american distributor, USPS, the guy who ordered the speaker can see the damage and are happy to proceed..... I think Serge will be fine......

we're in melbourne and have sent glen phimester a number of our old (and expensive) ribbons over the years, he turns them around quickly and at a very reasonable price. always using standard post with insurance (well packed of course). a ribbon mic with a busted ribbon is really just a transformer, ie nothing left to break! at least the old RCAs are... i don't know how sturdy newer ribbon mics are in comparison (not very, i'm guessing). but it goes without saying that insurance and padding are mandatory.
of course i wouldn't want to take business away from serge... but my experience has been with glen and i recommend him most highly.

Re: Microphone Repair
I've repaired many an RE-20...although sometimes the capsule is open circuit and then it is unrepairable unless you want to shell out the big bucks for a replacement capsule.
