here's one for the tools nerds:

how do you get video AND audio recorded into a mac via a tools rig??

i can't seem to find a way, quicktime pro won' recognise the 002 inputs, and i don't have final cut or anything else with a little bit more grunt that might do it..

any one got any tips?

You need the Digital Video Toolkit 2 add-on for PT me thinks...

Couldn't you capture vie firewire with iMovie then import it?

The short answer is... You can't.

If he wants to digitise video to a mac he will need some form of capture hardware like an Avid Mojo if he's using Avid/Digidesign software or a Black Magic or AJA device if he's using Final Cut. Quicktime pro will need some form of video i/o breakout box.

The 002 is an Audio only device and will not capture or playback video. The DV toolkit TimS mentioned only gives Tools LE OMF import and SMPTE timecode ability. It also gives you 48 tracks instead of 32.

002 isn't an interface that likes to play with others... glorified dongle!!

you know the solution?

open quicktime, using a canopus box bring in the video, at the same time (or a second later) hit record in protools, then import the video and align it manually..

shame but its the only way to do it

no big deal ,is only a temporary thing but pretty average that it can't be done

Can't Protools open/import a video file with its audio still attached? Even if the Canopus box is an old school analogue capture device it should have the ability to capture audio as well.

Even better would be to use a mid-level DV Camera with analogue inputs then capture via firewire, essentially using the camera as an A/D convertor.

It will, you just need to have installed the "Core Audio Driver" these enable the system to see the 002 as a "normal" audio i/o.

What exactly are you trying to do? What sort of Mac do you have, and what version of OS / iLife / PT are yo running?
