nothing in particular.

stuff like, gmail, google apps, fuzz measure/smaart, hamachi and i cal make my life a little easier..

Hi Damien, how's it going in Pony land?
Don't get under the bonnet much with computers and most will probably find this basic but for me its pretty fancy. ( By the way i'm on a mac.) iSync. lets me sync my address book to my email to the phone to the calendar. etc, etc......eg an email arives with a booking date, i click on the date and get options to add the date to the calendar can upload this to the phone.

iSync, MobileMe (formerly .Mac), and iPhone.

When I'm out If I get a number / make an appointment on the phone, it will automatically sync with my calandars both at home and work. I can set alarms to remind me, and they sync too.

Now if only I could make calls....

Were doing that at Turtlerock now, Except, just to make things even more simple(complicated) our studio management software also syncs with iCal which in turn syncs with other iCals and iPhone...

a couple of apps on the iPhone are are really cool -

twinkle - it works with twitter, more fun than useful, but is good for networking with local people. It uses the phones GPS to create essentially a location based chatroom. But then the twitter back end takes it even further but its beyond the scope of a quick explanation here, i encourage you to google it though, ive been micro blogging every decent meal i have ;)

Evernote - Create quick voice notes and upload them to a server complete with tags and descriptions...I mainly use it to record guitar riffs before they jump out of my brain. I used to use my iRiver recorder but there was no tags so digging up a riff from 2 months ago was borderline impossible...

To Do's - is nice and simple todo list app - the iphone comes with a calendar function but some things you dont want beeping at a given time telling you to do something, you just want a list that you can look at and check off as you go, you can also prioritize...

mail - its builtin but syncs perfectly with Gmail so you can do your email on the go and it syncs so your not double handling your emails... It doesnt sync with regular pop acccounts but it still works.

Of course, yes the phone drops out most of the time and thats if your lucky enough to not be out of batteries :p

And no im not an apple fanboy, i actually prefer PC's but the iPhone is 95% of the time a total joy to use...

booking software is an issue...

anyone know of good software.

(we have hire track for pa's ans excel for rooms.... neither is great)

Great idea Ryan, now when things don't get done and Rick gets grumpy just shrug and look in the direction of the computer and say "I told it to do it but it just keeps sitting there". :)

To tell you the truth, the program we use is not actually a "bad" app per say...

And for a rehearsal studio like yours, im tempted to say that it would work even better... Basically te way this program comes across to me is that the more rooms and bits of gear you have, ie. hire amps and boxes etc. The more useful it is...

My real gripe with it is just that it has a learning curb like K2... But on the + side, it does integrate your contacts/calendar/invoices/labels etc into one program, as far as i know its the only one of its kind out there for studios...

So if your interested I'll let you know the name.

I worked for a rehearsal studio a few years ago the two owners were computer programmers who had created there own studio booking/POS system from the ground up... So thats another option...

Just food for thought i guess...

what sort of litigation would you be worried about? they can't sue you for having an opinion. in fact, in australia it's not possible for a company to sue an individual for defamation (unlike in the UK). So I could say that Telstra are a bunch of hopeless w@nkers, and there's nothing they can do about it.

I would wager that they had (or should have) some other system going on in the background. How would they keep track of lending out a guitar lead that a band "accidentally" put in their bag?

It comes down to the fact that we don't need the hassle of anyone trying to sue us, right or wrong. Butim not so worried about what you say on our forum. I'm pretty sure thats coveredin the T & C

For accuracy's sake, that only applies to non-public companies with 10 or or more employees at the time of the defamatory statement.

So Telstra wouldn't be able to sue for defamation (the fuckers! ha that felt good), but perhaps Turtlerock could (dunno how many employees they have. Of if it's a company. Ah, bugger it, they're fuckers too :) )
